I guess the ship list looked too cluttered so I narrowed it down to my working ones and add more as I go. I am trying to finish Bis so I can start Craig's NC and my wife's VU. After that I pick up where I left off with Tirpitz and will start Graf Spee. Between that I have VDT to finish up which has been long overdue.
Nagato is a dare I say it disaster but hey I have worked on disasters before and managed to get them looking good and working fine so just another challenge but this time I have more tools to tackle the issues. I really need to work on my british ships as they had a big part in Bismarck's sinking. I am referring to Rodney and KGV or Pow either had their shots in at Bismarck.

As usual, absolutely gorgeous work. Really wish someone out here spent that much time on something for me to shoot at.

Beautiful work brother. I know what you mean Stokomoto. I am working on Wisconsin and Arizona. I am helping my son work on his Fuso hull, and a friend with his Iowa class hull. I aso have a Grag Spee hull inbound. Time has been my challenge, nut I do have a fully functional work shop. Oh well back to the shop :D.

Sounds like your plate is full too.
I finished one of the planes and have it mounted on the catapult. Put a couple of port holes in the forward end of the superstructure, I assembled the second plane and it's pontoon struts, applied primer paint first and I think I will use this plane for Tirpitz and keep only 1 on Bismarck. The model is looking good but I have a ways to go to catch up with the old superstructure. I hope to complete the striping sometime next week. I did install the deck tabs to keep the deck hatches secured and painted them up to blend in with the deck color.

Disaster tonight. I was cleaning up the ship yard and had some time on my hand before the wife would arrive. I decided to remove the drag discs and reduce the overall diameter and try it at reduced size to see if the sucking air sound would go away when I run the model tomorrow. I was able to pull out one dummy shaft but the other was very difficult. So I twisted the prop back and forth and pulled on it at the same time. Made a some progress removing it but it was still stuck and my fingers were hurting so I tried tapping it loose with a small hammer and pliers gripping the shaft and tapping the pliers. Well it worked well or so I thought when I glanced at the shaft V strut and noticed it had bent in half. I forgot I had sealed the strut to the shaft. One of the legs of the v strut had snapped clean from it's entry into the hull where I had bent the end tap and sealed it with resin and cloth. Sooooo what to do to fix this. Wife was arriving, it's late and I knew I driving the model with one drag shaft was out of the question. I was able to adjust the V strut and reinsert the broken part into the hull. I tacked it with ca then resin it in place. I reinserted the dummy shaft secured it and put the drag disc back on. Btw I did shave them down considerably before I reinstalled them. With that I got the drag disc back on the shaft and the dummy prop. Not perfect but close enough. Tomorrow after the cruise I will clean it up cosmetically and smooth out the underside. It shouldn't leak , the dummy stuffin tubes are sealed tight inside the hull around the shaft and at the end openings. Other than my stupidity the V strut was most likely weakened from metal fatigue. Those struts are almost 20 years old. I hated turning the model upside down to get at the bottom of the hull but I took my time with it careful not to damage the top deck detail and the jack staff.

Hopefully the run tomorrow will be good.

Well this day was a bust. No sailing. Winds were much too high today. A real bummer.

I shaved down the discs to the size I use on Missouri and on Mo that seemed to work so I hope it works the same for Bis. If not I will remove them and later just get an ESC . Meanwhile I took pics of Bis out on the front lawn taking advantage of the natural daylight and sunshine so I will post them today. First I have to assemble a new patio table and chair set, then set up the fire pit and get the barbecue ready. Steaks tonight.

Here are pics of Bismarck outside on the lawn. The natural light and sunshine helped bring out the details on the model. This is currently how it looks so far. More stuff to add.

Distant shot. Port profile. Slightly elevated. Upper stripes need to be added but so far it's looking half decent.

A lower elevation angled of the Port side.

Elevated angled port midships shot. The Arado plane can be seen on the catapult. One funnel crane is installed. Need to build the 2nd one and attach.

Quarterdeck, port side elevated. Turrets C and D each with a single BB cannon in a Death Y pattern. Lots of stuff missing from the quarterdeck so I hope to finish off this section this week.

Port Forward showing Admirals open bridge section with wings , Turrets A and B, and some bow detail. More to add in this section too.

Midships overhead view. You can see the catapult, the plane, the exhaust tubes around the funnel cap and the crane block detail.

Overhead Forward superstructure port view. Basics are there but more detail to add here.

I like how the capstans turned out. They need their spoked turning wheels attached on top and other forcastle detail will be added later this week to complete this section. I purposely placed the anchors out of the anchor wells to secure them better on the deck.

Overhead port view aft quarterdeck showing tops of C and D turrets. Rear director can be seen . It seems some deck planks are missing. Well my sharpie marker ran out of ink so I have to get more to complete this.

Starboard quarter view looking from aft to forward. You can see the crane and other detail from here. Of course more to add.

Broader shot of the same angle view. You can see the white edging of the drag discs where I had shaved them down.

Starboard side - Main Crane and AA guns. The crane is nestled just where it should be. It's missing the cables and pulley chock but that will be attached this week.

    Stern view
    [IMG]

White washed by the sunlight however you can see the bridge and those yardarm things sticking off each side of the tower.

    Direct Bows on view
    [IMG]

Bows angled horizontal shot port bow . I really like this shot
    [IMG]

Some of the upper mast rigging. A lot more rigging needs to be added which I will complete this week.

Starboard forcastle. Capstans and anchor chains.

Arado FLoatplane overhead shot. Missing decals for the wings and the canopy needs to be outlined . Nestled in there pretty good. You can see some of the detail to the interior of the crane block
    [IMG]

Elevated angled port shot. I had the secondaries appear as if they were turning in sync and ready to engage the enemy. Same idea with the AA'S. I have a lot of small AA,s to build and add to the various levels and on deck yet to do.

A pair of the Termite searchlights are aboard. You can see the funnel platform is missing details like the AA guns and the searchlights. The vertical and incline ladders are to be added along with other deck details. No portholes yet but again I will complete that this week.

Midships port side is looking busy there. Missing the plane attendees.

Only a pair of launches are on board right now and they need to be painted up. I have more to add to the hangar and deck along with boat davits.

Horizontal Midships view port side. The superstructure is missing all those various sized vents and grill work. That will be added too.

Overhead shot. Not the pretty red turrets that I would usually have but I really like this look too.

Starboard overview. The model though nearly 20 years old and if you seen what it looked like after Nats well lets say it was shot up pretty good, is not looking too bad for an old fella.

Bismarck is one of those type of ship models that no matter what angle you take a pic from, it always looks good and presents an interesting profile.

    I can't believe it's at this stage.

Starboard side view of the plane. This plane is from Peter's Planes and he does nice work. I will detail this plane up more. The crane details can be better seen here.

Starboard forward superstructure. You can see where I started inserting the portholes.

Next set will be with final details, striping rigging and flags and on water shots with the completed look. Hope this batch of pics inspires you to hang on to your old but favorite ships and give them a little TLC.After all they served you well in this great hobby.

Both sides of the superstructure have the black stripe. Tomorrow evening I will paint on the white stripes.

Stok, all I have to say is I'm glad you're axis. If you were on the other team with that beautiful ship I wouldn't be able to shoot it.... it would feel sacrilegious, like drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
