Yamato's port side is sheeted and sanded. Just puttying over the blemishes and voids in some of the areas. I redid the armored belt external stringer as it was looking rather sad and ugly and not straight. Just need to sand the repaired areas and then silkspan the exterior. Once done I will paint it then flip the model to the stbd side and begin sheeting that side.

Some formats allow a disk to be placed on the outboard prop shafts to increase drag. The extra drag can help adjust a ship's speed. It also allows the ship to run a higher RPM on the drive props which helps turning and acceleration.

MWCI is very specific on shape, size, and placement of drag disks. IRCWCC not so much.

Do you have to use drag disks in all battles?

Not sure if I understand the question. Heh.

No one has to use a drag disk at all on their ship. The ship just has to make it's required speed.

I do use drag disks on all of my ships to gain the additional prop rpm for turning.

Yamato's starboard side is sheeted. I sanded the port side and applied first coat of paint to spot blemishes or any problem areas. Today I will silkspan the outer hull of the starboard side and mark out the waterline on the port side.

Bismarck is awaiting for Yamato's exit from the yard so that it can go back in and get it's hull sheeted.

Roma had some minor repairs to the bow area and stern and touched up some of her camoflauge. Her stern crane has been reattached and the plane that was blasted off the catupult by accident has been reassembled repaired and is back on board.

Yamato's starboard side was sanded and silkspanned today.I added another coat of paint port side and wet sanded smooth. I'll do the same maybe Sunday for the starboard side. I should have the hull finished by Wed with luck and get the internals completed by Friday. Then..just some touchups of paint. I think I will remove the old turrets and place the Termite versions on instead. I have to build new catupults and their support posts then just touch up the details. Hopefully I can get it back out next saturday for sea trials and gunnery practice.

Yamato 's refit is complete. Just a couple of Anchors to attach. I'll take pics of it tomorrow at the lake. It looks pretty much the same with some minor cosmetic differences. Some crewman need to be repainted. Weighing in at 55LBS full load. I got so used to the Mo where it is long and sleek that Yamato's size just jumps at you. I will be speeding testing Yamato and Missouri Tomorrow. Missouri will be speed tested with the drag props this time. I will be conducting gunnery trials on Yamato and testing her new pump.
Next in the ship yard is my old BIsmarck. The main fore and aft hatches have been sanded and the hull frame has been sanded clean in prep for sheeting. The internals were already completed and ready to go so nothing to do their. I have a new center hatch for Bismarck that needs waterproofing. The old superstructure center hatch will be traced on the new hatch for fitting onto the hull then cut. I will make a test trace on another material to be sure I got the fit right and not ruin a good section of wood.
This project I will be making light repairs to the old superstructure so it it will still have a lot of damage from Nats 2010. I will be building a new superstructure for cosmetic purposes and use the original for battles. This kit has held up well for 18 years.
After Bismarck the New North Carolina will begin construction alongside of Dkm Tirpitz. . Next would be the Svent Itzvan (VU) and the VU itself. One for me one for my wife both armed for battling. We want to bring them both to a Nats to battle.
After that VDT and Konig will be worked on to completion fully battle ready. Finally we get down to Nagato and Graf Spee, Prince of Wales and Dunkerque to finish up the fleet. If I can keep this on track it will bequite challenging to store all of these ships in our little spare room. I have 9.5 ft by 10ft is my space while the room is actuall 13ft long by 9.5 wide. The remaining space is for my Wife's hobbies.
Currently I haveYamato on the 2nd last bottom shelf, Mo above that Roma above Mo , NC above Roma and 2 Vu hulls and superstructures from Roma, Mo and Yamato on the top shelf sharing space with transmitters and BB firing box. So it's very tight maneuving the models around. The remainder ofthe hulls are on a shelf at the shipyard where all the building equipment is available.
I did get a new Palm Belt Sander and a Hammer Drill kit. I got a really cool wife here. :)

Maybe you need to get one of those rotating shelf type units found in warehouses to hold all of those ships. ;)

Yamato was backing up. Here you can see ahead of the bow a little indication that it was going reverse. It coasted to a stop in reverse.

I had the camera at waterline level to get a shot. The wind kept moving the model around.

Hope to get out this Friday for more sea trials and gunnery tests. Mo and Roma will be coming along too.
Bismarck status. Hull sheeted. Need to sand and silkspan and paint it. New superstructure is setup for assembly. New center hatch is waterproofed with marine epoxy resin.
Tirpitz superstructure laid out for assembly.
NC will be joining the yard soon.

Wowww. the detail level is fantastic. Do you actually sail those into combat with all that?

Bismarck's hull is sande smooth and is ready for silkspanning and painting. Main deck center hatch is almost a perfect fit . This is will be used to hold the new superstructure. The sheeting came out very very smooth and clean so I hope to get it looking like it did prior to 2010 Nats. I doubt I can get it ready by this weekend but I hope to relaunch him sometime this month.

Tirpitz will be next after Bismarck. NC will be built too. This will be a double project.
