With 12" shafts and a gearbox, the motors ended up forward of all the stern cannons in my ship. The ship is also pretty deep.

I made mine 10”. Plan is to spread them out wide. I like the props to angle in as much as possible. I need to get the drag props in place to make sure everything will work. Looks good so far.

im in picture heaven, nice , where did you get the red itchy fiberglass if you mentioned it i missed it . i want some itchy fiberglass for my deck.

The itchy red fiberglass is the Electrical-Grade Fiberglass (GPO3) from McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-f...ts/=uhofw1

I thought I was overspending until I priced 1/8 aircraft plywood.

    thanks,fred

I am a big believer in the 10 minute boat http://www.portpolarbear.com/reports/ten.html It has taken many days getting a little bit done. Then one day to put it all together.
I had decided that I needed to get the prop shafts and gear boxes in so that I would have room to install.
Lay out, cut, fit, cut, fit, check, double check, trim. Build the stuffing tubes, then cut and test fit.

Built the stuffing tubes for drag props. Built drag props (love the itchy red).Failed at building struts. OK I’m not a metal guy. Ordered struts from Battlers Connection, 2 V struts, 2 single strut.
    Cut slots to fit struts.

    Check, Double check.

    Looks good through the turret.

    Glass from the inside.
JB weld putty on the outside.

    Bow deck problem…….
In order to get the 1/8” deck I stacked the sub deck.
This created a narrow deck that will cause several issues in this build. The first is the turrets in the bow. We call this an edge margin issue.

    Here was the fix.

    Keith,
I *believe* your dummy props are too close to the real props. This could cause *sucking* where the dummy prop creates a dip in the water aft which in turns causes cavitation or loss of propulsion for the working props. Solution is to move the dummy props closer to the bow. Anyways, maybe not an issue, but if it happens there is a solution to fix.

    Hmmmm........
Fit trim, check, double check. ASK FOR OPINIONS.... After all thats what this sit is all about :D
How confident are you? It will be much easier to make an adjustment now rather than later. I will have a casement deck in the way later.......o_O

Great little wooden guide for setting the center shafts spacing. Going to keep that trick in mind for the next build.

There is a trick out there that relies on the drive props sucking air while moving in a straight line. The idea is if the props are cavitating while the ship is moving in a straight line, then the prop's will have to turn faster to make speed. Once the ship starts turning, the angled flow of water to the props stops the cavitation and allows the props to make more thrust which improves turning.
The upshot, keep the drag discs where they are and see if it works. If not, shortening the outer shafts should be easy enough. :)

There should be plenty of room in the stern for everything.

What kind of cannon layout is in the works for the stern? Double sterns in the lower back turret? Or perhaps the haymaker in the lower back turret? We've seen it both ways and both work.

    Thanks for the input.
I will put it all together tonight and take more pictures with tape measure.
I would rather not cut it apart, but it would be much easier now than later.

The drag prop placement looks really close to where I put mine. So far, no issues when battling.

Here are additional pictures of the prop & drag prop locations.

I took some liberties by trimming back the center keel about 1/2 Inch. I wanted some extra width for rudder placement. Then I ground down the area in order to get the props just that much closer to the hull. I took of just a little too much and went all the way through. No worries. Fiberglass cloth on the inside & I will sand out the JB weld on the outside along with fairing out the stuffing tubes.

Heh, Mike, that's my Shipbuilding Tool #8008135, featured in several builds :) I'm surprised more people don't use it. Makes life much easier.
