74- years ago today, German Battleship Scharnhorst was sunk by two forces of British ships. Force one lead by by admiral Robert Bennett, in his flagship HMS Belfast along with Light cruiser Sheffield and Norfolk and four Destroyers HMS Matchless, HMS Musketeer, HMS Opportune, HMS Virago,.

Force 2, which was the hammer for the Attack. They were lead by Sir Brace fraser in his flagship, KGV class battleship Duke of York.. With him was cruiser Jamaica, and 5-S class Destroyers Scourge, Savage who was also one of the DD's to escort Nurmberg and Eugen back to Germany, Saumarez, Scorpion, Stord..

Sir Brace Fraser, Comment on Scharnhorst the day after the battle: Gentlemen, the battle against Scharnhorst has ended in victory for us. I hope that if any of you are ever called upon to lead a ship into action against an opponent many times superior, you will command your ship as gallantly as Scharnhorst was commanded today. That to me right there is a sign of Respect for her! yes, she was a thorn in the Royal Navy Butt, she was still a pound ship, and a lucky up til that point.

Rest in Peace Scharnhorst, you might be gone, but you never forgotten. but lets also never forget he lives lost on both sides of this ugle war.. it's estimated that between 50 million to 85 million people were killed both Servicemen and civilians.
