Would you like me to try sending a request to transfer the domain? I think what happens basically, is my registrar would contact his registrar, who would send him an email which should contain instructions on how to authorize the transfer (its been a while for me though).

okay, all I need is the "authorization code" for the transfer, could you email him (i'm assuming you have his email), and ask him for it? He will probably need to email the place he has his domain registered at, or start a support ticket, and ask for "the authorization code to transfer the domain".

Here is what Joe will need to do:
    http://www.networksolutions.com/support/preparing-a-domain-name-for-a-transfer-out-of-network-solutions/

Step 1 is probably all that applies to him, as I don't think he has private registration (step 2), and I'm hoping his primary contact email is correct (step3)

Any update on buying/transfering the domain from Joe?
If not, maybe we should consider buying another domain name. The domain www.battlestations96.org isn't registered anywhere, so we could easily grab that name and set it up. How much does it cost to buy a totally unused domain name?

Costs about $10. No update, work has been insane (I'm getting up at 0430 and getting home at 1800)

OK, for $10 I'm willing to pay for a new domain name. :D

I can provide the webhosting. I'd still be interested in acquiring the original domain though, a lot of sites link to it.

I would offer to update the HTML code, but my current employer does not allow it.

We can probably get the domain the next time its up for renewal. Or if we're lucky, we may still get it transfered before then. But getting our own domain name now frees us up from waiting on Joe. If the best case happens, we end up with 2 domain names and can choose later which to keep. But i, for one, am tired of waiting on Joe. I just think we need a working website ASAP if we really want to get this going.

    That's my 2 cents.

The Army web censoring software here at work won't let me access 'web hosting' sites, but in a few hours I'll be home and can do it. Battlestations96.org seems to be a good start. I'll plan on copying the current Battlestations! site code and we can modify it to suit our needs.

Chase, what kind of hosting do you have? I have my Vietnam site on GoDaddy and I do like their easy FTP console, but I'm open-minded.

I use Justhost. You can either use FTP, or they have a web based file manager you can use. I was thinking maybe a quick easy Joomla setup would be best for this group. I could also setup a mailing list if it was so desired.

I'm going to play around a bit with Joomla this weekend to see if I can't whip up a useful site to show you guys. I hope nobody will object...

Well, we have www.battlestations96.org as our future home now. Cost a princely $8 for the year. My initial intent is to copy portions of the existing Battlestations site over and then we can change 'em as needed.
