So this is definitely a a necro post but, I'm curious what may have become the recommended beginner ship for Battlestations?

Small light crusiers/largest Destroyers. Can be armed with BB guns, large enough to be buildable but not too big. Best for representing rotating main “big gun style guns” would be predreadnoughts or WWII British monitors.

If you'd asked me a few years ago, I would have recommended predreadnoughts in 1:96 scale. Now that I have built Mikasa in 1:144 scale, and am hoping to branch out into other, similar-sized predreads in the future, I can say just build 1:144 scale. With modern electronics, 3d printing and CAD design, you can pack the same performance and capability into a 1:144 scale ship. And then you'll have an easier time transporting it, launching it, recovering it, storing it, etc.

Of all the formats that are dead, this one is one of the most dead.

Yeah in the states right now, only like a dozen or so ships in this scale that are ready to go or need minor tuning (like batteries).

Is there any chance that some of those might end up going to Taskforce? Maybe just for a non-combat cruise?

Oh, hey, by the way, I have a 1/96 Cleveland hull in my garage that I (ahem) acquired from the Robert Rucker estate. Anybody feel like giving me too much money for it???

(I keep thinking maybe I'll make it a pretty scale ship someday, but that day is not yet. I have a Fiji or three to build first..)
