I found the article.. The Japanese managed a 6.7% hit ratio with torps. The article does have some caveats, but is definately interesting reading. Link is: http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-067.htm

We've had plenty of time for commentary; I'll post the rules in the next day or two for you guys to make sure I did it right :)

so what is the general feeling on this subject? a ship can arm all its TT as long as its main guns are armed?

Yup, that's the jist of it. They can build it, but I hope that most of the ships on the water will be more than one-hit wonders. Personally, I plan to ignore other BBs if I see a Kita on the water, in order to give it the personal attention it would so clearly desire.

Realistically, most cruisers will be interesting with torps and cannons. I'm looking forward to a destroyer :)

For more information on David Marrimans functioning Torpedoes contact Mike Caswell at mike@caswellplating.com . These torpedoes are powered by Propell gas.

Hey, folks. The WWCC tested the idea of using only one ball per barrel for its torpedo tubes at the Maker Faire, and boy did it make a difference. We went from one 1/2"x2" chunk per sortie down to zero for the entire weekend. There were still a few balsa failures due to use of harder grades of balsa and a few ripping angled shots, but none of them were caused by torpedoes.

    Tugboat,

As promised, here's the reload info for IJN cruisers and destroyers.

BTW, can we go ahead and put the new approved TT rules into the official rule set?

    Many thanks,

    Carl

Okay, I've updated the posted rules... please peruse the weapons section and see if there's something that needs clarified. I appreciate your help in editing/proofreading :)

Side note: I have not added any rules on warheads for rod torps, because we didn't discuss those much yet vis-a-vis what is allowed and what isn't. Please post any ideas on warheads (yay or nay, or what should be allowed, etc).

Does anybody have some information regarding the number of tubes (known) vs. total quantity of torpedoes carried by ships from any other navies (although it appears the vessels that garner the most concern have already been addressed)?

I'm taking my US Cruisers book to work tonite, I'll try to get some info posted for them.

Master of the (Ship)Lists... did you see where I volunteered you to add the torpedo data to the shiplists? :) Hope you don't mind hehe

Not a problem when we get all the data in. Just add another column to the spread sheet for torpedoes carried. There is already a column for tubes mounted.

    Tugboat,

I read thru the updated rules and they look good to me!

My 2 cents on the 'warhead' question would be to not allow anything for now and just use simple rods for our first few torpedo battles with ships using rod launchers. If the rod torps (which have only been used in 1/72 scale to my knowledge) lack punch in 1/96, then we can start experimenting with adding special warheads. But if the simple rods look as devastating in 1/96 as one of the damage photos on the Queen's Own website, then I think you definitely would not want to allow special warheads! [;)]
