PT boat in 144 scale is about 6 inches long. Waaayyyy to small . I only saw this done once and only once. If I drive by small boat that small with Yamato it would get sucked into the side and eventually get chewed up by the props. Worse yet the prop wash would just swamp it completly.
I would second Nick's suggestion on a heavy cruiser or larger. A WWI era dreadnought or pre-dreadnought battleship would be my choice if I had to do it again. Wider boats are more forgiving with weight distribution and are more stable. With any first build, fitting components inside is the hardest part IMHO. A small light cruiser like the Emile Bertin is difficult enough. Something to remember on small boats is that size is a linear progression, but weight is calculated by a fraction of the cube root. Size is an issue, but weight is the primary cause of cursing and head scratching.
