over the weekend, completed the gearbox assembly with the support rod. After a quick test: everything is running smooth. Pretty pleased at the result Also made the stuffing tube out of SS, including grease injection port. Both end are terminated with oilite bushing. Now I'm on a business trip, but next weekend I'll install those on the ship and post some pretty pictures of the inside!
Very nice work on the gear mount box. I would be very interested in having one for my Tirpitz . My old Bismarck is using a Large 970 6-12 motor on a direct shaft to a very large prop. I want to get away from that for my Tirpitz.
Installed the stuffing tube today, and glued them in place The rods are still too long inside the boat. They will be trimmed when I will be sure about the motor placement and linkage They include an oil port, Below with the cap on And with the cap off...
Public advice: if you store your tools ABOVE your ship, be prepared for gravity playing fool with you. Don't ask why I know, and why it should involve a pipe wrench, of all things... Now got a nice patch of glass to repair along with a part of the deck...
Wanted since a long time to do a float test, but since I still have more than 12 foots of snow on my front yard, and the swimming pool is not an option... moved the boat to the office... or should I say office workshop/labs... I nice immersion tank is present there. Tank is nice, but even better with accessories floating around... She is level and proud, as expected Time to add ballast to bring her down to the right level 30 pounds seems to do the trick!
More shoots... Overall very please, even after detecting a small leak coming from the stuffing tubes... One of the epoxy joint between SS and brass was not done properly. already fixed, and now run real dry!
