LOL! You guys are killing me with this. I'm designing a hull kit. The end users can outfit it however they like. I'm confident that all the necessary components will fit : P
PS. I do think that all this info and these pics belong in a new build thread for the Strike I-Boat kit. I think there are only 2 threads on them : (

Ok, it looked like you were trying to integrate motor mounts, exits for the stuffing tube, and rudder mounts into your design. If you are just looking to build a scale hull - none of the stuff I sent is relevant.

That being said I love this project, I think what you are doing is super great for the hobby, I miss my iboat (which I sold years ago) horribly, and wish I got a second one from strike.

love to see this project finished!

    cheers,

    john

I haven't had a lot of time to work on this but, I've re-worked the ribs, added the keel, a brace at the deck step, ledges to support the decks, and a pair of stringers that strengthen the flanks at the bottom edge of the penetrable windows.

I'm curious why you bothered to add the ribs as physical structures?

My Surcouf ribs are sketches-only, and I will create 'tiny ribs' in the penetrable windows only. Otherwise, it'll be smooth like a fiberglass mold.

For a few reasons: One is that an inexpensive "cut your own ribs using paper templates" option is my first goal, followed by a possible laser/cnc cut kit. I need real ribs for those.
Another is the added protection from ram damage for a possible, future, 3D printed kit. You'll have to stay tuned for the final reason, it's gonna be a game changer : P

The bow section looks pretty good, IMHO.

I've been tied up with other things lately but, I've done a lot of printing since the last update.
Here's a shot of my progress so far. This is the forward hull from the ram bow to the deck step. There are 2 more pieces to print. I'm hoping to have them done this week.

The last two sections were printed and attached so, it's a complete hull now : )

As requested, here's a few shots from different angles :

I started mocking up the top sides with Brian Koehler & Clark Ward's super structure parts.

Just a quick update : I designed and printed the part that fits in between the two decks.
I think it makes sense to attach it to the aft deck? I think that's how Strike did it and I think BC did the same for their HMS Iron Duke?
I loaned my ID to a friend so, I don't have it to look at at the moment : (

Yes, that aft triangular piece attaches to the aft deck, so they both come out as a unit. Kind of like this:

    Hi,

this is how strike did the deck. It made the stern a bit tight to work with, but the placement of the crossbar at the step made it hard to get at the motors and pump as you have it designed.

I am not sure this is better. Just sharing for reference.

Hmm. I was envisioning the whole aft deck being removable. One could cut out the thwart but, I think that'd weaken things too much. I guess those are details that can be left up to the builder : )

    Hi,

I think you are right. I did all my other ships like your design, with a crossbar at the step, and the entire rear deck removable up to the step. I would do it this way and the builder can easily make other choices if they want. My next ship will be done like the my I-boat, but that is a conscious decision and for a rookie boat, the brace at the step is the right choice I think.

    Cheers

    John

The 2D printed templates for the deck pieces worked out pretty well.
I tested with foam board :

I got the ribs to export as files that could be laser cut or printed out and pasted onto plywood.
They aren't perfect yet but, I think they are already workable.
