Well now that's coincidence. I've relocated most of my shop from the cold garage to the warm house. And the first ship to work on is a 1/72nd Mogador class destroyer. When the club was active we had 2-3 people in the club that owned lathes and made most of the guns. Since the club hasn't been active for 5-6 years now we have only gun maker left...maybe. The machining is required for the loader/breach/piston and magazine assembly. So, there is probably little chance of getting guns made now. I'm assuming of course that you want to arm it like our club arms them. If not then I think Battlers Connection is about your only choice for cannons. Loader/breach/piston sitting on Magazine and loader square clippard part. I'd probably be willing to loan you the guns or parts if you wanted to try to get them machined/made yourself. I think I also have a pretty good how to make guns manual I could send you. Just curious how you came to choose a 1/72nd Volta. How far along is she? Ship built? Powered and manuverable? Thanks. Send a pic or two.
Those are beautiful ships! I acquired a Volta that was nearly complete but had been used as a torpedo test target. Just finished the repairs to the hull but would like to get it operational. Also have a rather large Graf Spee that I am re skinning.
Do you have any pics of the part that needs to be turned? I've got a lathe that needs a project! PS. I love that the whole assembly is on a rail for ease of maintenance.
I forgot to say she is motored and almost ready for a sea trial. I need to still make a rudder, and get the battery and Radio installed.
If you are trying to start a 1/72 group near you, I would start with fixed gun DD's', you can use fast guns to get started. The B-110 and Clemson are to good starter boats and can beat the Volta. The Fletcher will be a good third boat that will be easy to arm. The attached are the easy to make rotating guns from my 1/72 ZH1. Now in my 1/144 Mogami.
Thank you! Trying to get a 1/72 club here in Nebraska. Miss playing against you and Gary up in California!
