Hey guys, I am going to start casting parts for my new Yamato. Anyone have any links to sites for casting supplies? What is a good material to use for casting? Thanks,
a few of the groups I have and still use. http://www.alumilite.com/ http://www.smooth-on.com/ Depending on the application you may use one company or another. I use Smooth-on for large molds that I want to do paint on one piece molds and Alumilite is good for casting rudders and such components.
I'm using alumalite. I will be taking some photos (like tonight) of the cast I've done for the tirpitz.... In the tirpitz refit thread. Otherwise, the alumalite came with good enough instructions.
John, Those are two great sites. Thank you for the info? Does anyone know what BC uses for the cast parts? They seem beefy.
Thanks for the imput Justin. This forum is a GREAT way to share information. Thanks again, I'll take a look at the pictures when you post them.
They use the smooth-on products. On my Kumano the turrets are alumalite, they have been hollowed out, so all 5 only weigh 4.2 oz. And the stuff is very tough. Just mix 50/50 stir and pour. 2 mins later the part is done.
Both companies Resins are very stout and could be used. It is in the silicone mold products that things differer by application. I find that Smooth-on has a very good selection for a better range of way to make the molds.
Hey guys, What part number should you use from Smooth-On as tha casting compound. I also don't understand their hardness numbers. Thanks,
What kind of casting are you wanting to do? It is all dependent on what you wish to do. You can do paint on molds and you can do pour molds.
