I am not sure if this has been asked, and I have read the rules, but still a bit confused. I have found a Baltimore Class Heavy Cruiser kit and i'm going to purchase it, but it's a class 3 ship, with 3 units. How many guns can it have to be legal. The actual ship had 9, 6 towards the bow and 3 on the stern. How many units does one gun count as, as well as a pump?

Depends on what ruleset you are going by.

    IRCWCC Rules
    MWCI Rules

Baltimore is a 3.5 unit cruiser under both rulesets. Your pump and cannons both use up units. You would typically go with three 1.0 unit cannons and a 0.5 unit pump or a 1.0 & 1.5 unit cannon with a 1.0 unit pump.

    To clarify what absolutek said:
under both MWC and IRCWCC rules, a "unit" is defined as a bb-gun with a 50-round magazine. A gun could also have a 75-round mag, and be 1.5-units.
    A pump with a 1/8" ID outlet is 1 unit. If you use a 3/32" ID outlet it's a 1/2-unit.

So your 3.5 unit cruiser could be set up like so:
3x50-round guns & a 1/2-unit pump. **Most common layout, mount all three guns in the stern turret
    OR
1x50-round and 1x75-round gun, and a 1-unit pump. Mount one gun (usually the 75) in the stern, other in bow.
