yeah, usually not. stinks like crazy here, but.... here it is. made a stupid move and shorted it out while I was checking the length on the cable for fitting. in ten minutes we'll be back on track. IMG_20180506_164700[1].jpg

and.... back on track. no damage to the batteries or hull, but I have done some to my pride.

... it's not a ball of plasma chasing after you, so... not quite. For your first major encounter with shipboard fire, though, I'm glad it was easily put out and repaired.

Be sure to coat the terminals on the Batts with something to prevent future shorting. Liquid tape silycone something.

If you think that's nickname-worthy, just wait til you see the scale of my other goof-ups.

Going to run the pump wires and such tonight.

ran out of 12 gauge wire for the pump, and have been too tired to do anything (we are working our tails off to get all of the Forest campgrounds up to snuff for the opening just before Memorial day weekend)

On that note, there are two campgrounds that are situated on shallow, sandy lakes. great fishing, non-motorized boats only, and the rate is pretty good. so.... if there were ever a need for people to have a weekend of camping/fishing/battling in Northern WI.... the Forest Service does group rates, and we have electrical available for charging batteries.

Plus Emily Lake has stairs down to the water from each individual campsite, and a boat launch ramp to boot.

Would be awesome. Need to see about what it would take to get the site NAMBA certified ECT.

yeah, and I'd have to get permission from Brady the Rec guru in my office. but he'd probably be cool with it unless there's a reg against it.

Not much to see, but I ran the line along the port side and due to the tiny little forks on the motor an my desire to run it with 12 Gauge wire, I had to get creative. I already think I know what I am going to do when I refit the boat later with regard to wiring to clean up the system: I'll plan the wiring harnesses to be integral to the lower hull, with plug ports set throughout the boat. probably have to dig little trenches or something, then put some kind of a removable decking over them.

I managed to knock a fitting off of the B turret gun--the little pneumatic port on the fill end of the magazine. after a close look, I should be able to easily solder it back on.

I'm going to be cruising a timber sale tomorrow and friday, so I'll be too exhausted to do any work on the solenoid attachments until saturday. I plan on trimming the wires and soldering them to their fittings on saturday.

Then.... I guess I'll have to wait until my christmas present from BC arrives with the final pneumatic components, CO2 tank, and the all-important new props.
With this pace, I should be able to at least give PPB something legitimate to dig into when the Memorial day fun begins. I probably won't be able to use her in a scrum, but if I dismount the currently unprotected guns and the pump works, I could make for a decent convoy ship for the weekend.

Just run it without adding co2 or bb. No need to remove the guns.

I haven't any armor on the mag tubes. but yeah, if I have time to armor them up, I'll just leave them in place.

Does PPB battle with convoy ships outside of Nats?

I've no idea, I've exchanged a few emails with Bob, but not much else. Just figured that if I got the hull ready and the electronics waterproofed in time, I'd at least offer to run around while they take potshots.

The most likely course of action is they'll just have me ride around with the loaner boat while I'm there, from what Bob said.

But since we're on the topic, any suggestions for armoring those mag tubes? I've an Ace hardware store and... that's it as far as logistics go.

There is a product known as shower pan liner. Or some have used pet proof screen. Attach to the deck inside the hull and line the entire perimeter inside leaving just a bit of space between it and the balsa sheeting so bb's can pass thru the balsa but not the screen or pan liner. Protects all the vitals inside. I also recommend some rubber tubing over the barrels as they will take hits and they WILL dent and then NOT fire.
