Keep the K5. I had an 88 and loved that truck. Sadly it was stolen (right after a new paint job). Found it a year later, just a frame stripped of all parts.

I had an 87 just before they went to fuel injection ... that quadra-jet was junk! Loved everything else about that truck though!

If it was the electronic q jet then yeah junk. Otherwise the q jet is a very good carb that can be adjusted to work on almost any engine. That's why they used em for so long. They are complicated though so most people have no idea how to set them up correctly.

New boat. 76 oauquitah. Can't spell. Lol.
Transom is weak but its usable for now. Will get a newer hull this winter. Mercury 115 looks to be all good and is supposed to be fresh rebuild. Looks it. Charging battery now. Hope it runs good. For $800 I got my money just in the engine and trailer. Trolling motor and fish finders. ECT.

It runs. Figured it would. Now I just need to get the fish finders working, the live well pump working, get a new fire bottle and a new hot lead for the starter. Its not got much insulation left. Lol. Fire bottle was old and discharged. Lights work. Hydraulics for the tilt trim work. Trolling motor works. Bilge pump runs. I think we should be in decent shape to go catch some fish this weekend.

Ok. The old boat is a rotted mess so I found this for $300 lol. 84 Ranger 373v. Solid except for the floor I just got done ripping out. Gonna put the good bits from the rottcraft in it and have a much better boat. 18 foot and much wider. 0825181936e.jpg

And a side benefit is when I order the resin and cloth to repair this I can get a bulk order that will also allow for the first run of molds and hulls. Win win again.

Aluminum angle to form missing area. Could have put it on the outside and removed it after glassing but this way was easier lol.
    0902181350.jpg
Layer of glass Matt double thick to give it something to hold it all in lol.
    0902181552.jpg
More Matt on the outside to build up the missing edge then a layer of resin to adhere the plywood. Once cured more matt around the ply to fill in the gap then a layer of heavy cloth over the entire top wrapping around the edges to the inside flat.

This cheap polyester resin is CRAP to work with. Sets up FAST! About 10 min working time. And it STINKS! Going with West Systems next time for sure. This stuff will do the job I need done though.

Polyester resin is a fickle beast. I agree that the bondo brand is not great. Not sure how your were measuring catalyst, I use 8-10 drops of catalyst per liquid ounce of resin, which typically gets me into a decent working time ballpark. I then will adjust up or down a few drops based on what I observe/how hot I think the set is getting. The smell sure is unique (and long lasting)

Yup 10 drops per oz. Ran out of hardner on the last batch so if it sets it will be a slow set. Got 16 drops in 2 oz. Fingers crossed. Gotta go after more of this garbage in the morning so I can finish this task.

At least I am getting better at glassing with this junk. When I get the good stuff I won't know to do with myself lol.
