This is the build thread of FN Beaver, my Suffren class heavy cruiser. (Yes, it's named after our own wonderful Beaver, who helped me get started) But before we get started, a tad bit of ship lore. So here's the story I made up. FN Beaver was originally FN Smith, a Suffren class secretly finished during Nazi occupation. The Smith escaped from Resistance shipyards and joined the Allied fleet. Unfortunately, the Nazis already knew about FN Smith and was determined to hunt it down. To escape this fate, the Captain, Barry Tighe (Again, named in honor of our very own) renamed the ship FN Beaver, and sent fake distress calls saying it struck a mine. The Germans now forgot about Smith, and Beaver was free with her operations. The Beaver came under determined air attack by the Luftwaffe, and suffered severe damage. Captain Tighe attempted to escape to an Allied military shipyard, but the ship was sinking fast. There were four drydocks near enough that were capable of servicing Beaver, but only one, TyngTech, was willing to undergo the risk of helping the Allies. At the dock, the owner, Steve, (Named in honor of SteveT44, owner of the real life TyngTech) a former Admiral of the Fleet, decided to join the rogue crew and help them. Also, a worker, named Nut, joined the crew and became the pilot of a small aircraft. (Yes, RCAircraftNut.)
For the record. I absolutly hate what the word drone has done to our hobby. We now have the faa up our buts because nobody listened to me when I told them to say "quad copter" instead of drone. Now the faa is publishing rules regarding model aircraft when the federal government had already ruled that models were out of thier jurisdiction. Public perception is everything. Please dont take this the wromg way, but referring to me in any way as a "drone pilot" will get you on my naughty list.
I wasnt mad. Lol. Just letting you know how I feel. I absolutly hate it when the govt sticks thier nose in my life.
Know how you feel. Me and my brother built a custom quadcopter to put a camera on, but the laws are so confusing that I don’t even know if you can use the footage on YouTube (and potentially earn a profit) without getting licensed. As always, some stupid people had to ruin it for all the rest of us.
Here's the printed rib pics (Sorry for the bad quality) (Yeah, that's a music stand in the background
You cut a deck, then a keel, add the ribs to the keel, dry fit first, position the keel and ribs over the deck upside down. Block the deck up to meet the ribs. When you are sure everything is strait, square, true, and plumb, the start gluing it all together. You dont need to go crazy here as it is all getting completly coated in resin before you sheet it anyway and that will make it super strong. There are other ways but this is the simple way. Good luck.
Before you start tracing, make sure that that measurement is 5.5 inches. If you printed it out at 100% scale then you should be fine but it's best to check now and fix the problem than to find out later after you've done a bunch of work.
