Hello everybody, and greetings from the other side of the Great Pond!
I've been wandering around on this website for nearly a year now and by spring I made the decision to build my own combat boat and to open up on this hobby in Europe. I began to translate the IRCWCC rules into German (and to modify them with ideas from Treaty etc...) and looked around for a good, easy ship to build. First, mainly after reading Mike's Béarn thread, I liked the idea of a Normandie-class BB,
then I tended towards a pre-dread, and after finding Tugboats SB-101 Édgar Quinet thread, that was my ship of choice, before I finally, once and for all, decided for the Suffren (to avoid the same fate as a certain AdmiralBangerBang...;)).

I startet with Beaver's beautiful rib templates and Tugboat's wonderful lessons on how to use them.

I look forward to the build thread. The Suffren is a great starter boat.

Probably no work going on for at least four weeks from now on due to lack of scroll saw.
For the same reason, my first R/C project was halted too, since I need to insert a sub deck to get an access hatch.

Actually a fishing trawler, but I might rebuild it as a tugboat to take care of out-of-control ships.

Little question on keels: can I put the bow and stern keels in from above?

Do you mean cutting the notches so the ribs slide on to the bottom of the keel instead of on top?

Yes, because the first three ribs or so are very slim in the bottom.

I know this thread has been quiet for quite a while, but here's some news: Building has been delayed due to vacation and me having the flu, but the subdecks are cut out, as well as half of the keels. Expect the pics tomorrow!

Keep plugging away, my first ship took at least half a year to build. Now we can do it in less than a month.

Continuous production of sawdust, here are the results:

Little problem I found: The combined length of the subdecks and the keels is off by nearly an inch.

How about the width compared with the deck? You have two choices: 1) redo the deck pieces or 2) modify the existing ones.

Don't know about the beam, but it seems more like the keels are too long rather than the decks being too short.

I went back and read Caleb’s post for the Suffren plans. There is some overlap in the plans because they are on multiple pages.

We know that Suffren is 53.5 inches long “IRCWCC Ships List”. Measure your keel to determine if it is correct.

The side profiles do not overlap. The midship hull profile defines three rib stations but the side profile should be the combined length of the ship.

Measured again, Beam is OK, both subdecks and keels are off slightly, probably because of printer inaccuracy
