i am new to building and i ve been reading about using foam pvc sheets instead of plywood. i was wondering what type of foamed pvc was used for this. Any helpful tips or tricks about building would also be appreciated as well.

Not sure what you're referring to, here. Nobody in the hobby builds hulls out of anything but either fiberglass or wood. Some plugs used to make the mold for casting a fiberglass hull are made using expanding foam. Superstructures are made of many different materials, including builders foam sheets. PVC pipe is often used for turret barbettes (and motor mounts). Hope this helps.
