I have always thought the Le Terrible hull available from Strikemodels was fantastic.
I decided to do this thread on that ship mainly because the ship is similar to the largest German, and Japanese destroyers, that folks can possibly get hulls for.
Eventually, I would like to do a thread on the Mogador as well.

I was able to get the decks installed on the Le Terrible this weekend.
I will start measuring out the superstructure, and barbette layout today, and will try to post some new photos.
It sounds like we may have a small flotilla of destroyers running around this year. That should be fun.

I was able to get most of the decks cut out for the superstructure over the last couple of days.
I have the funnels started as well.
I am still trying to decide where to mount the cannon. Bow, or stern?
I have had both in the past. The stern cannon was more useful. But the bow cannon was more fun.
I have considered trying to make identical mounts in both the bow, and stern, so that I can change
it out whenever I like. I might have to make some sort of weighted item to stick in the empty cradle
when the cannon is relocated to the other mount. Perhaps not.
I will try to post some new photos by the weekend.

    Mike,

Nice work. How much would you charge to build a Mogador superstructure? I find the scale aspects of the hobby boooooooooooorrrrrring! ;-)

    Agreed, Steve!!

That said, I have NO idea how I got a reputation for either minimalist superstructures, or running 'aircraft carriers', or 'turtle-ships'.... ;)

I've improved a little since the early days :) But I feel the call of the engineering far more than the call of rivet-counting :)

If I could get away with cutting the outline of the superstructure out of foam-board and hot gluing it to the deck, I would!

It isn't so bad really. A few hours work is all it takes for a minimal superstructure. Smaller ships and WW1 ships don't have much superstructure to model. A few foam block shapes and some 1/6" plywood platform decks and it's all done. :)

I kinda enjoy making superstructures myself. Not the super detailed ones that a few craftsman make, but the basic levels, decks, and shapes easily cut out from foam and thin plywood. Someday though, I will spend the time to make at least one detailed scale superstructure. Just not right now. heh.

The Jean Fromage is my break from my minimalist tradition... cranes, searchlights, the works. But I don't want to keep hijacking this thread :) I demand more pics of Le Infant Terrible!

    Sorry Steve.
But I am too far behind schedule on all of my current projects to make a superstructure for your Mogador.
I was hoping to have both the Le Terrible, and Alaska on the water, and battle ready in May. But I don't see
    that happening.
I also have to get started on a submarine (probably a Surcouf) in the very near future.

I also want to build another Mogador in the future. But I do not see that happening this year.
So many boats.. So little time..
    Oh well.

That is a cool looking ship. How did I miss that last weekend?

I want to do a destroyer not a good first choice. Maybe next year?

I had her down off the shelf showing her to Frank.
You probably had your head in your own boat at the time.
By the time you are ready to have a try at a destroyer, there will be a
few folks with more experience at building their own destroyers. So we
should be better able to assist in your build.

Funny, that is the part I enjoy the most to be honest. The superstructure and details I've always thought was fun. The hull is the part that I don't love doing.

    Overall length was 434'.
So she is around 36" long.
She will weigh less than 4 pounds.
Very fast, and a good turner. And hard to hit.
