Getting a ship to speed.

    So right know my set up is direct drive 970 motors and 2 inch 40 degree props , in the past I could not get the iowa to 24 sec , always 26-27 sec . Im not a fan of the gear boxes so what do you think is better keep direct drive and go with the 775s since there a higher rpm or 550s or stick with the 970s with a belt drive of 2-1 , Thanks for the help.John

    Your running 6v? Try going to 12v with an ESC on your 970's.

    Hi Steve . Yes I currently running 12v I would have thought that would be good , motors are new but just cant seem to get it to 24

    could be a weak batch of motors as well

    I have parts for the 970. You could go to 14-18 volts too. 970 motors wound to higher voltage can take a bit more than 12.

    Those props might also be a bit small, I ran 2.25" on my North Carolina which is a good bit smaller than an Iowa. But I'll defer to the Iowa owners to give you advice on that.

    Direct with 2.5 inch three blade and 970 small wire wind at 12 volts pb cells.

    New setup is two 800kv. To two gearboxes to 2.125inch three blade.
