Just got my new Laser cutter/Engraver Glowforge. Did the first test item a ruler. Took about 5 minutes, was 3/16 inch maple hardwood.

I purchased the Pro model, so it has slots in it that I can feed material thru, and make a cutting up to 20 inches wide, and infinite long.

Started shipping about 6 weeks ago. The Basic's went out first, then Pro's. Low volume, till the past couple of weeks, and they say they are ahead of their latest schedule. Mine was due first week of Dec, so it was a little early.

Well so far I have not been able to use it much, wife and daughters are still using most the available time that I have after work. I figure in a week or 2 they should slow down. That actually gives me some time to draw some items to cut on it.

They are busy making Christmas tree ordements.

My youngest daughter lives in St. Louis, and she loves it. My oldest daughter or wife turns it on, places the material into it, and walks away. My youngest daughter then loads her drawing, sees the material in the internal camera, positions the drawing on the material as she wants it, then tells it where to engrave, and to cut, and then tells it to print. But it does require someone to press the button on the lid to start the actual operation.

I finally had some time today, and I took over the Glowforge for around 30 minutes.

I only had 1/8 ply, so I cut 4 pieces, instead of 2 as I had planned.

Took me around 2 hours to draw, still learning, but getting better, and about 20 minutes of total lasing time to cut out the 10 peices.

Now the big question, what ship super is it?

Inkscape, its free. The Glowforge needs .SVG files for now to cut. It can use just about anything else to engrave, but wont make the cuts unless SVG files. They plan on adding DWG in the future.

Off the top of my head, looks like Bismarck bits to me. Not sure though never built one.

Well here the latest thing I cut, a ship puzzle.

Quite happy with it. Got my Bis super drawn up to the 4 level, will cut it in a week or so.

Made my Bismarck's battery connection tray. Tacked together. Using 3 sets of 3 batteries, will provide 10 volts, at 45 amps. Should be good for a sortie.

Inkscape drawing, before loading into the Glowforge.

Tacked together, will epoxy when I get some more 90 amp connectors.

Has the holes at one end to feed the wires out to supply the power to the boats systems.
