It turns out my old digital cameras won't be up to documenting the builds I'm about to start, especially extreme close-ups, so I was hoping some of you would have some suggestions or links for cameras to use for pics to post here. Horror stories about what not to buy are equally welcome.

    Thanks

I would say for video a go pro is fairly awesome but would recommend waiting for the 4 to come out as it has a higher fps for 1080p as well as 4k capability.

For stills i would have to recommend a DSLR either cannon or nikon (sony kinda sucks but the good cameras can be cheaper than cannon or nikon but it is hit and miss) and a macro fixed lens for extreme closeups.

cheap point and shoots will not give you a good quality. at least not any better than what is in 90% of smartphones these days.

i should have said if you already have a cell phone and don't want to spend about $500 then don't buy another camera.. nothing under that price range takes much better pictures than 90% of cellphones.

I use a Canon Powershot SX230. You can see what kind of photos it takes in my Suffren Build page.

I usually use either my cell phone (Nexus 5), or a slightly more fancy point and shoot (Nikon P510) to take pictures. SLR's are nice, but totally unessecery and expensive. If you don't have a cell with a decent camera, you could go to your local Sprawlmart and pic up a cheap point and shoot digital for around $100 or less, and it'd be fine for taking shots of your build.

My iPhone 5s takes better video than my "non HD" Sony Handycam and better pictures than my 8mp Nikon point and shoot (mostly due to better lighting control).

So it is no longer possible to upload photos? An external source for a url is required?

Thanks, I was only looking at the buttons at the top. And now for the beginning of one of the promised threads...
