[]Does anyone have any idea what to set up a Graf Spee for Fast Gun speed should be? I am trying to decide on a drive system and battery system. I remember in the days of Swampworks I used to set up the ships with the 385s on direct drive. So what are you guys using these days? If you have pics of your interior setup could you post them here? I need to make a decision and any feedback will help. Thanks.
I like the Battlers Connection 05 motor combined with their 1-to-2 gearbox, lower drain as their is one motor, but you still have 2 counter-rotating shafts from a robust and strong and simple geardrive, you can change the drive pinion to change the speed and it changes the speed equally on the 2 output shafts.
I use BC's one motor/dual shaft gearbox. Like Bryan said, it's easy to maintain, easy to change gear ratios for both shafts with one gear, robust, and efficient. I've run three full sorties on a 10 amp hour battery pack with spare power left over. My ship is using 1.5" dia by 25 pitch, 4 bladed props. With the stock gearbox gears, it puts the ship right on 23 seconds. Acceleration is good and the prop shafts line up with the BC gearbox output shafts. Turning probably suffers a little compared to using higher rpm 1" or 1.25" props, but it's acceptable trade for acceleration IMO.
So far it's 2 thumbs up for the One Motor/Dual shaft Gearbox. I like the fact that it is only 1 motor to maintain and from my Bismarck's experinece that is a huge factor. What pinion are you guys using on the gears?
Excellent PO that sounds great. Don't know if I WILL use a full size pump yet. i was thinking the smaller version. I used small pump in Bismarck for 6 years and it worked very well. Till a lutzow placed i's stern in the bow. It kept afloat but no pump could handle a hole that large.. Tks PO
I used BC's large pump just because I had one and because MWC doesn't let a Lutzow have 3 cannons with a half unit pump. Of course, with a full unit pump and one of Dave's low friction outlets, it's hard to sink the ship. Heh. As for gearing, I don't remember what size pinion gear it was, but it's what came stock with the gearbox.
We fight IRCWCC and I like the twin rear turret with a single front gun (gives you some options) and a really good half unit pump (Put a good high speed, low drain motor on the half unit pump) Makes for a ship that is easily overlooked and has a armament of something in a larger class, and you can still change batteries if needed.
Curt does your Graf Spee have the side bulges? Is is a old swamp-works one (straight sides) or one of Ralph's hulls (one of the bulged sides). I have one of Ralph's and I really love the lines on her, too bad it's actually my son's boat i am finishing up for him.[]

Nice, so I suppose you left the 1/8" braces where the curve meets the straight section between the appropriate ribs? You will really like her, she accelerates fast and is more stable in the turns with the width and bulges. Try to keep your prop shafts almost level as if they point down too far you can pull the rear end down, which can help if you have twin sterns and someone is right behind you, like a built in gun depress. but you probably know that already.

I appreciate the feedback from Vets and Newbies. I am currently working on the CWC-X rules package on the computer now. I hope to have it ready for viewing before XMAS. I plan to have a Cruiser, battleship and battlecruiser under this format. Graf Spee I am really looking forward to outfitting it for CWC-X.
Well I do not know anything about the CWC-X rules, how are they different again? I know some of the Treaty rules, some ot the MWCC but mainly IRCWCC rules, (way to many there) what is the main difference with these new X rules? (I live a sheltered life in my winter igloo here) SJDY (St Jacobs Dock Yards are now open, ships laying up for winter) and Now I'm off to jell coat a Mogami.....
