I don't need another hobby but I'm interested. If nothing else it is probably a cheaper hobby that my interest in building a cyclekart.

Mostly interested in fast gun due to the nearby events in NJ but I could be swayed in another direction.

I'd love the ease of a pre-made fiberglass hull but I am drawn more to odd ball ships which is going to make getting started rather slow.

Welcome! You’re in a good spot, about an hour from @bsgkid117 who owns south jersey shipyard.

we have a battle coming up May 1-3 in Cordova, MD which would be a great opportunity to see boats in person and meet the club

Thanks for the invite! I already have something going on that weekend. Hopefully there is another even in the summer.

You are welcome to stop by the shop and check things out, I'm in the middle of building a Jeep so the place is a bit of a mess but there are plenty of boats to see. You're in a prime location for Fast Gun and being in Philly you're real close to me and our pond here in South Jersey for NJ battling.

Oddball ships is a huge chunk of why the hobby's fun. I saw your list of starter boats in the other thread and tbh, a lot of them are on my list of hulls to make.
with CAD and 3d printing, we can basically make any boat that comes up, and do it relatively fast.

for example, I'm printing the prototype for this fella now so I can iron out the kinks in the design. The hull took longer than usual due to the insane casemates, and all the fine measurements required to verify hard area, but I've had the project sitting on the digital shelf waiting for my desire to print it to emerge.

    you know it buddy!

I put in some weird experimental stuff too. I printed off the mechanically critical portions of the hull last weekend to do test fits. the boat has drop in slots for cannons in the forward stbd and port aft casemate positions.

Also the bow is a cast foam sleeve This is the portion of the bow that will be printed in ABS:

this is the portion that Briank in Statesboro is casting with foam. (dude seriously this boat is a frickin woodpecker I had to do something)

Like New Jersey Kevin says, she'll be a monkey with a butcher knife. fun for the whole family, if your thing is doing relentlessly stupid shenanigans.

Once I finish making the final adjustments on the design, I'll post it up on Thingiverse
