Bob, all those parts are there but I think one of those universal collars or joint was damaged when removed. Where did you purchase those ones?

    Curt,
I think I got those couplings from the Westbourne Model Shop in the UK. (They have a website and always have an advert in 'Model Boat' magazine.) If they are Raboesch connectors (black nylon) Lowell Briggs used to carry them and still might. What part of the coupling was damaged?

Thanks Bob for that info. The part of the Universal is the end that has a threaded nut type coupling They are still connected to the universal but whatever was in them to connect to the Gear motor shafts one of them was bend when one of the guys was trying to remove the coupling from the shaft and the other was misplaced. So without them I can't connect those universals to the drive shafts. I don't know if they sell those things seperatly.
I will check with lowell and see if they are stillavailable.

    Tks [:)]

    Curt.

    Curt,
FYI the only way to uncouple the shafts in Warspite is to loosen the Allen key set-screws in the collars at the stern end of the universals and pull the prop shafts out. The dual motor mount can then be unbolted and lifted clear if required.

Once the Master Airscrew reduction gearboxes have been attached to the forward ends of the universals (the big threaded ends) there's no need to ever remove them. The gearboxes themselves can be taken on or off the motors by a pair of bolts.

When I talked to Lowell about the Raboesch parts 2 years ago he wasn't aware the company made universal joint coupling inserts to allow the use of model aircraft reduction gears in ship models.

I'm about to order aircraft reduction belt drives (Olympus MFA 2.3:1) for the Furious - they're the same as the ones I used in Courageous, with the same universals as Warspite's. I'll need more of those couplings so will let you know when I find them.

    Curt,
The Olympus belt drive has a 1/4" UNF output shaft. I'm sure this is the same size as on the Master Airscrew reduction drive because they're both designed for the props sold for elctric plane models. Measure it to be certain.

If the shaft is 1/4" UNF the Raboesch part you need is:

    106-23 (v) 1/4" UNF.

The connector table (inserts for the universal joints to connect to different sizes of shaft and motor) is in Catalog 2, page 16, on the 'Raboesch Precision Engineering' website. The catalog has a huge selection of props and shafts too. Lowell Briggs is the only Canadian distributor.

Thanks for the info on that Bob that will help tremendously. I am off tomorrow so I can call Lowell and see if he has them there in stock I hope. In the meantime were hoping to launch the ship Friday or Saturday. I am hoping for Friday. It's nealry completed. Everhthing so far is looking good and functional.

Does Ralph have a another QE hull? How much was he selling it for? I was considering it but I don't have any turrets for a QE.

What about those British turrets I sent over for the PE. Would they be of any use?

    Curt,
If the nylon couplings for theU-joints were damaged they are part # 106-40 'Nylon coupling'.

Ralph may have another QE hull in stock. He's made at least one but I don't know the price. Turrets are not available from me because the mold is worn out. Krijn in the OAF was given permission to sell copies - he took a mold from one of my turrets. Try contacting him.

Oh is that the Blue ones? I don't know they look quite different than the QE turrets. What ship are they from?

I got them from Norm when I was going to to build the dreadnought. I believe they may be from Lion but I am not sure. He did get them from Battler's

Try Steve Hill his Vanguard turrets are simular enough until someone can make a new mold for QE Turrets, I may be willing to do this as I have a good area for fiberglacing now and have the time over the winter. I may take a few tries to get them right but I am willing to give it a try.

    Chris,
I asked Steve about his Vanguard turrets last week = I need a set. Steve made 3 attempts to make a mold but all failed due to bad gelcoat. After that he gave up.

    Chris,
Talk to Steve about the BC turrets before you order them.
