curt, that would be a fun story to tell!!! David, When you are going to get your bismarck out??? Nikki
lol yes Nikki it has seen water and all guns have been tested, did u read about me finding my little leak in the hull?
either coming through the stuffing tubes or running over the deck when im at full throttle, and who ok?
yea....anyway now i need help. maybe its normal but i dont think it is. today i took the ship for another trip and my ESC was over heating again! and this time it is out of the box. any ideas what to do, my ESC is a marine viper 40
What do you mean the ESC was overheating. Esc's get very warm or hot depending on how you use them If your running at low speed they will get very warm. How many do you have installed? One per motor? Or just one for all 3 motors. The last time you had an engine issue you mentioned having someone install the electrical who was a electrician. Was this done? Keep your ESC out of the box . Combat ships generally have water in the hull and this keeps the ESC cool when in use. Are you using the same motors as before and if not what motors are you using? How did the model run ? Are your prop shafts spinning freely or do they have a lot of resistance when you spin the prop by hand.
all i had the electrician do was hook my betteries up with Traxxis connectors so i can take them on and off very easily and i have one ESC for all 3 motors and it is out of the box. as for the water there is none and im setting up a cooling fan as we speak due to the fact again its only a show boat yes props spin freely and i can turn with pinky finger. the mottors are (3) 6-12v 550 mottors which are new and if this makes sence i did hit fisshing line at full throttle with knocked off a blade which i am going to buy tonight.
haha yea i guess is it ok to make a little box with water in it, Not a sealed box of course just wondering because i get kind of annoyed cleaning up the ship with water going around the engines tight places.
When you hit the fishing line, did it stall (stop) one or more of the motors? if it did, this will cause a huge load on the ESC, and make it run very hot. Make sure you have a fuse on the ESC.
yea i have a huge fuse which i dont think it does anything, anyway it might have because it was strong enough to break the one blade off but when i brought it back the prop was still spinning
What amperage is the fuse? If it's more than the rated maximum of the ESC, it's useless. I always run a 5 amps lower fuse than the rating of the ESC. Fuses are cheap, ESCs are not.
not sure i think it is more, would you happen to know the maximum fuse rating for a marine viper 40 ESC?
One Mtronik 40 to run three 550 motors is asking a lot of it. You are going to have esc failure. I would upgrade to a more powerful one. Since you are not battling, you don't need instant reverse and can get by with a delay reverse one which should be easier to find in 100+ amp rating. The Mtroniks are ok ( I guess) but I have had many failures with them and eventually went away from them to a start /stop circuit . Even when I treated them kindly and didn't wire them wrong, I have had a few let magic smoke out.
Honestly - I would spend my money on a DC ammeter and find out what your motors are drawing. 550s CAN draw up to around 70+ amps if theyre stalling, but under normal conditions three new 550s shouldnt be too much for the Mtroniks - but not all 550s are the same, so YMMV. I fuse my 550s individually with 15A fuses each, I've blown 1 when i completely bound both the props in a float line. On the bench they pull around 4A each, in the water pushing my Derf around, 7. Knowing actual draw numbers for things is very useful.
