That system did not work too good as it was hurriedly put together. You need to have a strong support to secure your servo to . I wlll take a pic of MISSOURI'S system so you can get a closer look. . My Bismarck is still in the paint booth. I will get a shot of that system too for your comparison.

Try this link. I keep it as a reference. I taken some ideas from this to build my servo mounts and you can see how the servos are setup for throttle and for Rudder.

Depends on what you plan to do with it. A DX6I is a good controller. I currently have 2 DX5E's. The DX6I will allow you to expand a little more with a variety of RC functions like smoke or lights or sound , or maybe to rotate a turret what ever works for you.

Looks good so far. You may want to make a larger support bottom plate for the servo to anchor too. The plate can be attached to the sides of the interior of the hull and secured that way. More support under the servo tray( plate) will keep it level and keep it from moving. Your getting the right idea. It may not be perfect the first time but as long as it works and works reliably then your on your way for future ship builds and improvements. I didn't get it perfect the first time and it's been a long process. It's evolving and I am still trying different things. That's what makes it fun. Make sure you test it first before securing it with your adhesives. Overall good job!

is it better if the rudder servo is closer to the rudders with shorter rods or farther away with longer rods like my setup above, or does it not matter?

    Shorter rods will flex less

Watch the clearance of the servo with the deck/subdeck That usually limits where it goes. In an armed ship, shorter would give more clearance for d turret guns also.

No, just makes it more flimsy,
To adjust throw move out from centerpoint of servo. For example, mounted close in on the servo arms gives less throw than all the way at the end of the serve arm.

ok my remote DX6I will be in tomorow and im still waiting on speed control Speed-Viper-25 from strike so i can hook up to transmitter, other than that i have been taking a look at the deck and sub deck for my ship, does the deck supose to fit inside the hull or just ontop? and should i glue strips of balsa on the inside of the hull to keep the deck in place?
