French?!?! Who said they're French? The lifeboats in question are property of the Royal Navy (subdivision of TyngTech Global) and are therefore British. Also I think I should note that if the said lifeboats are in use I think it very unlikely that said passengers would activate said scuttling measures.
Looks like I'm going to over engineer the Barham superstructure. Since I was planning on building most of it out of foam, thought it might make a nice recovery float. The 01 deck will hopefully detach and spool a line behind it. A hole was cut into the main deck for an as yet, un-designed spool system to fit into.
I was just fooling around with Caleb. Of course the mags will get shields. Especially when there's that gnarly little Nassau that at speed is practically shooting UP from out of the water!
So what can you do with inexpensive hardware store 1/4" ID polyethylene tubing? Barrel shields of course. You can make a cool shot trap. Stick some pins in one end to let the CO2 out and keep the bb's in. Reloads your mag feeders real easy... and of course, easy to apply mag shields. Cut to size, slit, and snap on.
Found these yoga blocks at the Five and Below for cheap. Cut down to 3/4" slices and they are going to make excellent superstructure pieces (I don't have to raid the grand kids toy block collection anymore). Two of these blocks are more than enough for the Barham superstructure. They cut real easy on the bandsaw. I expect that an electric carving knife and some spacer blocks would work well also.
Finish? Is that the goal of a project? It only took me five years to get the Mogador battling and that only has the one cannon. The Barham with four cannons? Only been working on this one for three years!
That is a pretty ingenious superstructure material. My only concern is how heavy is it? If it's dense like floor mat-type rubber then it will be too much weight too high.
I use the foam floor mat from harbor freight for most of my superstructure needs. I presume Steve's yoga foam is of similar density.
Of you're going to add weight, it's better low, regardless of the ship. It just has less effect on larger ships.
Back from my trip abroad and back to my favorite pastime in the whole wide world, superstructure building (NOT). Cut a template out of 1/8" ply, glue foam on each side, and some harrowing minutes on the router table and wa-lah, one Barham funnel!
