Is that one of Ralph Coles original QE Class hulls? I used one for my 1998 build of Warspite that was at 2003 Nats.

I'm tempted to build QE or Valiant with Ralph's newer version of the hull, which is suitable for only those 2 ships post-reconstruction (no casemates).

Good eye. It was popped from that mold. It didn't have the casemates, I added those in.

Apparently Charley's lake where Nat's is going to be this year can offer up some nice deep water bottom fishing. To fish, you need a fishing reel.

Got some 500lb test 2mm Kevlar kite string on order to go on that reel. Hopefully all this won't be needed but I'm expecting a few friendly rams from all the Allies jockeying to get shots on the few Axis showing up this year. ;)

If the Allies are nice we can sink the fleet in the same area so you can pull them all up at the same time.

Nice. I am just finishing superstructure on WeeVee and still can't decide on how to make a float. wish there was a prefab reliable unit or something made for another application we could pirate.

This 2mm kevlar string was thinner than I was planning to use. Here's 25' wound on the spool. Time to shorten it up a bit.

2mm string holding 100 pounds off the floor. Supposedly it will hold 500 pounds.

Well down, Steve. I am working on my float for the new ship and will use some of your ideas.

Nate, I’m assuming that you have the drive, pump, guns, co2, and superstructure done already, right?

I found some 1.5 mm, but it's only rated for 100 pounds. I put mine in as after thought when I saw Charlie's post. so its just coiled up under the Smoke Stack. Your way it should feed with no entanglements, very good idea to have it mounted on the float itself too.

How well does the painters tape hold when wet? With the the Axis shooting at you, and pump streams hitting the boat, I would be afraid of the wiring coming off and tangling in the props.

Charlie has a full workshop Nate can use if its not completely ready Kevin. ;)

Having a way to recover a sunk ship may be more important than any of that stuff. Especially in a deep pond.

how does a boat battle without the above? Pretty hard to sink from the pits. I guess you could get frustrated and throw it in the middle of the pond. Main battle area also isn't that deep, nothing compared to the MI pond

Not well, hence the importance of a recovery system.

The brain box needed some surgery to accommodate the LED controller.

Now on a couple of spare firing buttons on the Tx, push a button, LED's on, push again, LED's off. Second button cycles the DR.

    2018 Nat's postmortem

Not so pretty anymore. Check out the line of holes in the first pic complements of a Yammer dual sidemounts.

Some pics of the recovery system. The 1000 pound test lanyard is attached to the hull via a u-bolt that is through bolted to the bottom. The line on my float attaches to this setup.

Work starts on water channel improvements. The model tends to list to the right when taking water so I'm going to correct that.

First I need to get to the innards.

Four screws and the electrical system pops right out. How many of you Dudes can do this? ;)

    upload_2018-7-21_11-33-25.png

Leaving a clean and open hull.

    upload_2018-7-21_11-33-47.png

Speaking of clean. I'm taking the time to get Charley's pond mud washed out.

    upload_2018-7-21_11-34-24.png

The bilge is going to get foamed. The new channeling will taper towards the center channel front to back. This is going to be a PITA to do but it should greatly increase the Tyng Barham's staying power.

    upload_2018-7-21_11-36-52.png

Along with the new water management, I'll be upgrading the power to 24v 4AH Kobalt lithium. The current 24v SLA packs are working great but their bulky and I wanted to reduce pack size to improve water channeling. Here's a Kobalt 2AH back that I run in my Atlanta clipped to this cool power takeoff I found on eBay. The power take-off will be bolted to the hull and the packs will snap right in.

    upload_2018-7-21_11-40-0.png

That's all I have right now. I'm waiting to get the 4AH Kobalt packs which are out of stock currently. Need to get those so they can be weighed to determine how much lead ballast will need to be installed which is the next step.

That pond mud was nice, removed all my innards the day after I got back, and it took a couple of minutes to get it all washed out.

The bolts and nuts sticking out, look like additional drag devices. I personally do not care, but I have seen people called for less protrusion than what you have at Nats.

Just expect it to happen. :(

Barrister Dave can find almost any potential problem, even if he has to look back in time. Just kidding right Dave?

    Judge, Jury, and Executioner Carl.

I just stated what I have seen questioned before at Nats. As I stated, I don't care if he changes it or not.

Most rules issues are from back in time, that's when they were written.

    Are you?
