Refit on a ship built by Marty. I agreed to get her on the water. Back when I first looked into the hobby I wanted to build a monitor, so now that wish is coming true. Hardest part is done, the superstructure I think it was mobile at one point time to gut it Geek guns, they were still loaded when Steve pulled it off the shelf marking windows
Got her cut out today Most of the way also stripped some water channeling and pulled the shafts drew up a rudder mount to print, will get that going tomorrow
Please tell me you are going to put hellish down angle on those guns and make it a drive-up murder-machine. you can get sidemount-level down angle out of those things!! *SO* glad you're doing a thread for this.
Too bad the HMS General Wolfe/ Hms Lord Clive monitors wouldn't be able to arm their fixed to starboard 18" gun, at least not as a side mount. would it be allowed to make it a Stern gun? I'm not sure how the rules work out for that.
If you tried to do that, you'd have to say the 18" gun was the ship's main battery. Meaning you'd have a 3 unit boat with 1 1 unit cannon since there was only 1 18" gun in that fixed mount. I would think that the 15" guns, by definition, would have to be called the ship's secondary battery. Might be wrong. In reality, who cares. It's a monitor.
When I first visited Marty's shop that boat was the first one I noticed. Marty was a great guy. I'm sure you will do Marty proud in this rebuild.
She might get down angle guns, TBD. that’s the goal Steve! More deconstruction finished cutting the hull Shaft realign Printed rudder mount Props
More work done, test fit rudder servo Decided to reinforce stringer cut Need to redo some of the fiberglass deck to get better access to rudder servo
Yes gears are printed. I use the feature in fusion 360 to import part files from McMaster and modify as needed. I’ll post the files sometime soon. Progress over past few days Small BC pump mount bottle mount. Planning to try to fit the 3.5 in there Rough idea of internal layout
Nice. I didn't think anyone else would ever build this ship. Mine's ready to sheet, but I have a lot of work left. I'll post my superstructure files in case you want to use any of them.
Thanks for the files, thankfully Marty took care of the superstructure decided that the cross member had to go for bottle access, really not needed from a strength perspective printed some rudders Put a layer of mat down and reattached deck rim
Coming together pump. tested her out, 1.2 gpm at 9A gun servo New deck pieces superstructure year fit
Got her sheeted Not an easy task. Had to split pieces above and below stringer need to dial in the gun mounts she floated nicely, gluing mounts now Hopefully sea trials in the next day or so
Got the insides together gun mounts, simple. Will need to tweak them a bit and hold barrel tips sea trials. Exactly 7lbs, might add some lead to bottom for stability in turns
