    SICK!

thanks for sharing the link. yeah I was sitting there kinda like *huh, I bet that's probably a placeholder, but I should ask to be sure* because that servo has lower torque than the one I use in my class 5 boats.

love the rough loft idea. that's a handy trick to have. one of the reasons I love wood and print is being able to do clean integrated mounts for stuff. cool to see that you can do clean mounts like that with just a rough measure, trim and go!

Oh hey BTW I talked with BrianK today about those secondaries. I'm gonna do the CAD work for em, then send the file so he can foam cast some for us. I'll give you a heads up when that starts happening so you can get in touch with him

Hey everybody, I just sent the STL file off to Brian K. if you need secondaries for your Vanguards, Brian can sell em to ya.

Able to get some build time in today

I got the drag shafts in a couple months ago
    IMG_3212.jpeg
I worked on waterchannel today. Planning 1 pump forward and 1 aft. I decided to epoxy wood barriers in this time given the different features
Front barrier for bow, the. Room for forward bottle, then fwd pump, mid bottle, aft pump
    IMG_3302.jpeg
going with 1/2” wide for most of the length
    IMG_3303.jpeg
stern area will be 1” to make a platform for aft solenoids
    IMG_3304.jpeg
I plan to use fetherlite to pour in the outer areas
I had extra epoxy so I put rudder 1 together

Didn’t have any featherlite left so switched to subdeck today
Traced onto wood. Hull is a good shape so beam was good/didn’t need any adjustments
    IMG_3306.jpeg
then I mark 3/16 to 5/32” inboard to account for hull rim.
    IMG_3309.jpeg
also drew in cross members and pump outlet holes
    IMG_3310.jpeg
cut out and good first test fit.
    IMG_3311.jpeg
forward outlet needed to avoid the superstructure, so further forward than I wanted but should work
    IMG_3312.jpeg
looking forward. Bow will be a separate piece. Planning to avoid a cross member around the motors , boat seemed fine stiffness wise. I’ll use a lip on the aft deck piece to make the joint between aft and mid pieces, aft piece will stay in place in most situations

    awesome work!

yeah I was planning the new subdeck similarly with regard to keeping the fwd and aft deck plates in place and making the mags such that I could reload them with the center plate removed.

Hey so with the bow bend, did you kerf the underside of the subdeck to get it to bend proper?

The deck bends fine without need for cuts or anything

I poured most of the waterchannel. bow was two part with the area around the bottle higher

    IMG_3324.jpeg
    stern
    IMG_3326.jpeg
    bow part 2
    IMG_3327.jpeg
I left the middle empty incase I need to add lead later, and it can be filled with the deck in
I cut the bow porting of subdeck and then glued them together in the hull so alignment would be good
    IMG_3349.jpeg
just used 1/8 ply to bridge the pieces, they get glasses into the hull so strength is not a big deal
    IMG_3350.jpeg
next step is tracing and cutting out the deck from 1/8 ply

Looks great! I'm really looking forward to seeing how that pump setup works out.

I got the deck rim in today
    Traced from subdeck
    IMG_3351.jpeg
    IMG_3352.jpeg
    test fit
    IMG_3353.jpeg
I cut the large piece right at motor mounts. Plan is for aft piece with guns to stay in place most times
    IMG_3356.jpeg
    stern
    IMG_3357.jpeg
    bow
    IMG_3358.jpeg
    drilled deck hold down holes
    IMG_3359.jpeg
    prep for install
    IMG_3361.jpeg
much easier to install the deck studs now
    IMG_3362.jpeg
all clamped in place and epoxy drying
    IMG_3363.jpeg
stern view. The pieces of wood across the top aloe alignment with top of hull, then deck is clamped to that. I don’t use compression between the wood and side of hull to avoid lumps, the deck is slightly larger than the natural opening so there is enough residual pressure. I’ll fill in any gaps once the first epoxy batch dries

Pulled the clamps, came out good but lots of cleanup
    IMG_3366.jpeg
    IMG_3367.jpeg
    IMG_3368.jpeg
cleaned up top edge and taped edge to fill gaps from the bottom
    IMG_3369.jpeg
stringer made it harder, I think I got most of the edge
    IMG_3370.jpeg
filled in under the outlet tubes
    IMG_3371.jpeg
I prepped the barbs in fusion. I’m glad the Brit’s went with 15” guns, I was able to just tweak the QE barbs and the turrets were already done. Hopefully going to start printing tomorrow

Fusion sounds so much better than when I built a pair of Vanguard supers. They pretty much broke me for building new stuff for quite a number of years.

Progress on finishing up the deck rim
    Sealed from the top
    View attachment 32441
result of filling from the bottom came out nice
    IMG_3374.jpeg
printed the barbs and gluing them in. the bow deck is curved when attached so I fastened the deck while gluing them in. Barbs are held up with a screw through a cross piece, and blocks to the deck
    IMG_3376.jpeg
    showing the bend
    IMG_3378.jpeg
    aft barbs were easier
    IMG_3377.jpeg
    bow single sidemount
    IMG_3379.jpeg
    IMG_3380.jpeg
    After dual guns
    IMG_3381.jpeg
    IMG_3382.jpeg
Underside of aft deck. I doubled up the thickness to hold 4 guns and make an overlap portion for the mid piece
    IMG_3383.jpeg
one layer of fiberglass cloth on barb outside for enhanced BB resistance
    IMG_3384.jpeg
    IMG_3385.jpeg
    Excess trimmed off
    IMG_3386.jpeg
    IMG_3387.jpeg
Deck rim sanded down and final coat over the whole thing
    IMG_3388.jpeg
I added magnets for the mid piece and between screw hold downs
    IMG_3389.jpeg
brushes out excess epoxy onto the underside of the deck pieces
    IMG_3390.jpeg
other things not shown include boring out the Forster breeches. Next steps will be magnets and epoxy coat of deck pieces, and then guns. She’s coming along

Finished up the bilge keels this week
    IMG_3427.jpeg
    IMG_3431.jpeg
    Magnets for turrets
    IMG_3433.jpeg
started on guns. I added a backing piece on the elbow for the back feed threads to have enough to engage
Here is set up for solder, getting the lower joint and the back piece in one go
    IMG_3434.jpeg
    and complete
    IMG_3435.jpeg
    elbows in their holders
    IMG_3438.jpeg
    bow sidemount
    IMG_3439.jpeg
    IMG_3440.jpeg
Ran some test fires on a different piston set up, trying out the recessed style
    IMG_3391.jpeg

Some quick hoses to test it out
    IMG_3447.jpeg
added adjustment screw to set piston height
    IMG_3448.jpeg
the gun did we’ll, cycles great and shot hard, 260fps at 130 psi without drilling the piston yet
    IMG_3445.jpeg
    IMG_3446.jpeg
next will be be finishing the end caps and T’s for the guns, then mounting guns. All of the guts are coming from the Iowa so should come together quickly once the guns are done
