I highly recommend first finding which battling format is closest to you, then reading the rules for that format. Not only will you be building a ship to battle with the closest group, but you would get a very good idea of the rules for that format. Of course, if the ship you are building won't be battled in any format, then you can do anything you like with the ship. Heh.
To date, the ships I (and my son) have sailed (and been sunk in) have all been ships Richard is responsible for maintaining, so I think he will be pleased!
I will see if I can find you some free Arizona plans. But do figure out which club you'll be battling with, and read the rules before you start building.
ok i need a ship with a low freeboard, good speed, and good fire power. anybody know of a ship of this discription?
Arizona, same speed as South Dakota, more armor, lower freeboard, 1/2 less gun (5.5) Only bad thing is it doesn't turn like a South Dakota. It also won't get damaged like a sodak. Less patching!
Going down to 5.5 means a loss of a firing barrel. so I'd say 1 less gun. Not saying I don't like Arizona, it's one of the few Allied ships I'm enthralled by.
True. But if I find some plans somewhere, it might be a good winter project for a non-beginner The pre-NC US battleships were truly beautiful. I'm also tempted to do Courbet (French dreadnought) for similar reason (I'm all about pretty!). But I'm still looking for AZ plans; Nats prep has been consuming my time of late, which limits time at the PC to search the hard drive.
