[]I was thinking of outfitting Nagato with 4 motors running 4 shafts. If I was to use direct drive what size motors would work for a boat this size? I think I will be using a ESC on this. If I do use an ESC with direct drive how many ESCs do I have to use? ADM STOKOMOTO[]
Don't know for 4 motors, but I routinely run 2 motors with one ESC on my I-boat. What ESC (and what ratings) are you looking at using?
Have no idea on the ESC but I think it's a Viper marine ESC? I was thinking of using this NAGATO as a runner. What ESC do you use on your I boat Tugs? ADM STOKOMOTO
Hi Marty. I am using this Nagato as Non combat so turning won't be an issue here. I am building it for scale and detail. Like to have it run all 4 prop. ADM Stokomoto
Curt, if you are going for scale, have you thought about building yourself two belt boxes rather than gearboxes? They will be quieter on the water and are rather easy to make.
heck, I recommend belt boxes in general as they are, when constructed right, a bit more forgiving on the drivetrain when you hit dirt/rocks in the shallows and are quieter.
Hmmm belt boxes. I am not a big fan of belts but for Nagato it may be doable as I wouldn't use it that often. I don't have the resources or knowledge base to build one myself. ADM STOKOMOTO
It is easy. Pick the right timing belt (sdp-si.com) with sufficient tooth height for what you are trying to do. Biggest issue is if you need a large amount of reduction... then they get too big. then make certain your motor can slide to take up the slack.
No one does that I know of. I generally make them myself. They are less tolerance sensitive than gearboxes which makes them a bit easier if one wanted to make it truly by hand. that being said, if you are running 550's heavily geared down, the gearbox is probably the better option. I tend to play with motors to find some that only need a little or no gearing down (or gearing up in some cases) so that I don't have the very high speed components in a ship that make some of the annoying noises.
i really hope so, in fact im really counting on it to work well. I believe in Rick though, so i hope it goes well.
