You're right, of course. Please bear in mind that I don't want to offend anybody here with the next statement because building and battling warships is fun. I just don't consider it my main hobby. In fact, most days it would probably only make 4th or 5th string. But, as long as it remains fun I will keep it up and hopefully finish another vessel before the end of times
If we keep being able to meet, building and battling boats shouldn't be too hard, John. If nothing else keeps you going, just think of all that tasty Iowa-class freeboard to shoot at... haha.
MWC-IL Build Session (2011-06-05) Test fitting the rudder on Yahagi. Ethan really should tell me when he is about to snap a picture so I can suck in my gut : Test fitting the outer shafts: Instead of building my own superstructure, I decided to take a shortcut and steal Aaron's from his USS Iowa. I call it the IJN Yahiowa! A rear view of the rudder, main (inner) and dummy (outer) shafts. The drag disks may be a bit too big but, for now, she has the maximum sized disks allowed under MWC rules: That's it for now. Have a good one!
I haven't done a lot in the past few weeks, but I did finish glassing the outer shafts. I also began working this past weekend on a prototype of Yahagi's main armament. Once complete, my goal is to make a mold of the prototype and cast the additional turrets.
Hello all: It's been a while but, after a bit of a break, I took some time this past week to work on Yahagi. First, I finished the prototype turret housing for Yahagi's main armament. I proceeded to create a mold using the Smooth-On OOMOO line of products. Finally, I cast a few turret housings using the Smooth-On FeatherLite and SmoothCast lines of moldable plastics. One of these days, I'll have to get some cannons setup to test the BB resistance of both materials. I've included a few pictures below. For reference, the gray turret is made of SmoothCast, the black is made of FeatherLite (added a bit too much pigment) and the wood-colored is the prototype. Cheers! John
