Ahoy folks, I saw a very interesting new CNC router on YouTube today. Instead of being entirely driven by stepper motors across whatever size table you've built, it uses human power for large moves, and only uses motors to move the head for more precise placement. This allows you to operate on whatever size table you want, rather than being stuck on a single fixed size. Could be useful for doing single-piece decks, keels, baseboards, etc. Here's a demonstration: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0clzXWSaCw Unfortunately it is not available yet, so I cannot check pricing. Still, very cool. I may be more interested if I build any large projects.
Still very cool, but they went on "pre-order" about 2 years ago (with a bunch of cool vidoes of a working product) so I wouldn't hold your breath for it.
I was on their preorder info list. I was interested until the cost came out for the first round at some rediculous amount, then I lost interest. I hope they get it under a grand or it really limits my interest
