I love to see these work in progresses. And the discussion on the drive system has me watching with great interest. Also your ID is looking great. Might have to think of one for next year. Have to wait to see how my rookie year turns out. I see my wichita sinking many times. Kim
Funny about wrong bows. My Swampworks' Bismarck bow is wrong. My Yamato's bow is wrong. Anybody else out there with a ship with a wrong bow? ID may or may not have a wrong bow I don't know I haven't researched it. Not uncommon for hulls to show inaccuracies and most are not serious. Most hulls out there are semi scale. Swampy had many of them and BC certaintly has a few but again not a major issue for this semi scale hobby. Even the Scale Shipyard hulls have inaccuracies in their hull productions. No company I seen yet produced the exact perfect hull form for every project. I try the best to make mine as close to the protoype course with liberteis as this is for RC Combat. Most people not familiar with the hobby or the ships don't notice the flaws of the model anyway. ID looks pretty good either way.
Your earlier link over emphasized the bow a bit I think. At least from what I have seen in other depictions and pictures. Thanks to Boomer's link to that russian webpage that had Baden plans I found some things on the HMS Iron Duke. I am starting to admire Adm. John Jellicoe due to the fact I am currently reading Castles of Steel by Robert Massie (Dang good book the paper back version is out got mine for 17ish). It is my plan to do it for my second build. Here is what I found..
You welcome for the link, but you guys can call me will if you want. And youre right, the bow doesnt look right for the model, but then again, not all models are perfect.
I put more photos in my folder from that russian website about the HMS Iron Duke (including Benbow, Marlborough, & Emperor of India).
Well I got my subdeck in today, will let it dry overnight, and re-coat the top deck to fill in some small areas along the sides. But she is looking pretty good. Helped Rick with his wiring in his new Scharny, and Don started his wiring in his ID. For mine make the rudder servo mount. and then cut out the deck inserts, and install the barbetts, getting ready for the guns. I plan on using BC's tube bender again, and make up some guns, somthing like what Bob did for his ship, so that I can reload and not take off the stern decks, right now I plan on just having to remove the forward deck section during normal operation. The pictures on this page are a little oversized, so that I do not get the page selection button.
Yea, i norticed, if you go all of the way to the bottom, you can scroll over enough to get them. But this page will be over soon enough, and itll be the next page.
Yep, after I posted my last entry, I did figure out how to move it over, but thanks anyways Boomer for the post about it.
Well I got a bit done today. Sanded down the deck edge level all around, and sealed with West systems. Looks pretty nice I think, and then poured the Port side PL concrete sealer. Don C is having surgery Tuesday to have his knee replaced, so I took his ID yeaterday, and plan on working on it for him. He wants it wired the same as mine. So today I got it all wired, and the stern poured with the concrete sealer. He will be layed up for the next 2 to 3 weeks before he can work on it again, so by then I should have all the concrete sealer done, and have his subdeck installed also. Then I will make both of our deck inlays. So it will be in good shape for him when he gets ready to start building again. Here is my forward subdeck installed, I will give it a light sanding and another light coat in a few days. Stern deck, I just like how it came out. Too bad I was not better at applying the resin, whats the secret to have it come out super smooth like glass, mine is OK, but not great. More of the Subdeck install, and what I was trying to do with the wiring. You can see the ESC installed between the shafts, with the power wiring hooked up, about as clean as you can make it. Its sitting in its own sump, which can drain to the pump.
you are just flying through this this. Cant wait to see more (and no, not see more butts for all of you old pervs out there).
My trick is to paint it on very thinly in several coast with a fine bristle paint brush. It is the many think coats that does the trick. Also mix small batches of the Resin. I prefer West system. BTW David it looks pretty. I am sure you will have lots of fun playing good guy with her. Or you could just Heidi use the Iron Duke.
Thats a thought, she wants to be Allied, and says if she had a boat she would battle. I still have a Nagato hull sitting here, maybe that will be my plan, finish it up after I get the ID, Atlanta, Sri Aruthia, and Radezeky done. Then of course her Iowa could be rebuilt, would only take a week or so.
Damn! And to think I thought that I was productive today with Ragresen's help. Oh well, with all the plans I'm making I'd better learn to step up my pace if I ever want to build half of what I desire. I can't wait to see your and Don's ship in person. In an effort to keep it simple ('cause I'm stupid) I plan a more traditional build for my first ship (VDT) but will be using the self leveling concrete crack sealer. I think I read that it cuts easily and, if so, then I'll consider refitting my ship with buried wires next winter. I hear there's a good chance I'll have a little Japanese tart to pilot sooner than I thought so I'm down for a road trip to FL this summer so I can see your new ship in person. Great work, man! (Hey, Ragresen, WTF? You were suppose to be cookin' burgers but instead were inside checking the forum? No wonder you over-cooked the burgers! )
Seamen Bauers you should look at the posting time of my post. And the burgers were good and you know it. When we gonna see a picture posting of your progress? I need to do a Progress update on my Konig Class.
a). "Seamen"? I'm bigger than a single seaman? You calling me fat again? If you meant that in the singular then you were a little off on the spelling--and that's just down right dirty. Heh. b). Hmm, shows as a 6-ish posting on my screen...but it might still be registering left coast time. I'll give you a pass on that one. c). You're right, the burgers were damn good! d). Right again. Now that I'm finally building (thanks to you) I guess it's time I started my own build thread and stopped hijacking David's ID thread. Ok, I'll do that tonight.
I poured the last side of my ID today, so in 2 more days, I will work on the deck somemore. I also finished installing and coated with resin Don's waterchanneling wood, and forward armour bulkhead. This evening I will do his forward pour when the resin dries. It looks like 3 1/2 tubes does the job, 35 oz, so just a bit over 2 pounds of the concrete sealer. But with less than 6 pounds of batteries, with 30 amps capacity, she will be just about right.
