Hello RC Warship community! I've just started work on my fast gun KGV model, most of which I have bought off Strike Models. I have a lot of dumb questions to ask, so I hope you will bear with me.
Thanks! My next question is more ship specific. Since the top of the armor bulge is so close to the 3/8" measurement for the top of the hull, what should I cut out for the stringer?
For the IRCWCC, the height of the stringer must be 1/8", so I would put the bulk of the 1/8" below the 'step' at the top of the armor bulge (like in the picture beaver posted), and leave just a very small (<1/32") amount as a lip above the top of the armor bulge to prevent balsa blowout. It looks like the distance from the bottom of the subdeck (3/8" down) to the step for the armor bulge is about 7/32," so a BB could pass through that area, though you probably wont get many hits at exactly the right elevation. For a rookie just make it 1/8" and it probably wont really impact how the boat does in battle
Thanks for the clarification. I might have missed this in the IRCWCC rules, but the stringers don't count for the total impenetrable area, right?
You would leave 3/8" from the deck rim solid, your stringer would start at the top of the armor belt and go 1/8" down. Looks like you'd have a gap of about 3/16" between your stringer and the deck.
You should consider a quad, and a single cannon up front (either rotate or fixed). The kgv does not turn very well (I know because I have one), and is better run as a big cruiser. Trying to slug it out with side mounts will get you in trouble as there is a lot of target area on this ship.
I currently am in possession of 3 straight mags (50 rounds) and 2 coiled mags (Also 50 rounds). Can this still work as a quad?
On the IRCWCC ship list, the listed weight for the KGV is 37.43 pounds. However, in my instructions, a 10% overage was mentioned. What does this mean, and how do I find/calculate this?
You won't need to be at the max weight. It will actually turn worse the heavier you make it. I think mine is around 34lbs.
If you weight it to Max weight, you will not be able to run it as a lighter weight without later on cutting out more. To add the 10%, just multiply the weight by 1.10. i would not recommend running it at that weight.
So if I weight it light while measuring, then it can take a heavier load while still being legal, right?
