You could do the hard areas at bow and stern while you wait for the hardware kit.

Now im going to fiberglass the whole thing just to cut out any imperfections and also to make the hull stronger. and if i want to use it in a battle ill cut windows into it and sheet it up.

The ship has now been fiber glassed and the stuffing tube is now in, currently waiting on motor, motor mount, and rudder.

Looking REALLY nice. Very cool with the armament on it. Makes me want to finish my convoys, too!

its not exactly to scale but i got it the best i could without spending 10$ for a chunk of balsa which id only use 1/3 of it.
now i need some recommendations for a cheap system. i was looking at hobby king products but kinda scared how good they will be due to how cheap it is also it was like $21 for shipping. this would be greatly appreciated for a good cheap system. thank you guys so much

A bunch of us use the el cheapo HobbyKing radios out here. No real problems. My viewpoint on them is essentially: 'if they die, the worst that happens is I go swimming for my ship' - unlike the airplane guys where if the radio dies midflight, they get to scrape their plane into the trashbin. You can pay a little more and ship out of the US warehouse for some of their stuff, believe the cheapo radios are stocked there. Will arrive faster, little less shipping, no potential customs problems, downside is a little more cost.

I'm a little bit of a gear snob, but that said, my HobbyKing gear has been exceeding my expectations and I heartily recommend them to anyone getting into the hobby. Their Hextronic $6 servo is the functional equivalent of a 'standard futaba' and is easy to waterproof and let me standardize almost my entire fleet (except for battleship rudders)... convoys run the same rudder servo that the cruisers do, that DD's do, and the BCs do. Easy-peasy.

    What's the application?
For pumps, I have a stack of 60A airplane ESCs that I use for all pumps, it's overkill but I don't worry about blowing an ESC.
For Drive, I generally use the Hobby King branded 30A or 45A car ESCs. I could drive POW at 18 seconds without stressing the 45A ESC. The 30 probably would've done it.
Get the programming card ($6) that goes with them, makes life easy. The only critical settings to change on the ESCs are: Low Voltage Cutoff to 0.00V, and the reverse setting to 2 (two), which means no delay between forward and reverse. You can play with throttle curves and the other stuff at your leisure, but those two settings are a must for combat.

Programming CARD. You plug the ESC into it and click a few buttons. Much easier than using the single button on the ESC and listening for beeps to program them.

It's not ignorant to ask for help :) It's ignorant to plow on without a clue. You're fine. I'll post a link to it when I'm on lunch, you have to buy the card from HK, it doesn't come with the ESC. It's only like $6 or 7, and I've used mine for years now, it works on all HK car ESCs.
