I'm not after free... I am after fully functioning, and a good second engineer to look over my breech prototypes
A question about the sheeting. Did you bring the balsa and aramid on the bottom up to the bottom stringer so there's an overlap between the bottom sheeting and the side sheeting? I couldn't quite make it out from the pics posted.
There is a designed in recess for the replaceable side sheeting. I designed the recess at exactly 0.125 inches. No overlap
No. there is no 1/32" on the sides of the bottom. that region was balsa blocked in between ribs. the only thing outboard of the ribs at the step is the aramid cloth I used.
Greg, I just got stsrted on the ship since my Mutsu is 98% finished. I have a question...how do you suggest converting this hull to a fastgun ship? This hull has that .125 recess at the bottom to allow the thicker biggun balsa to lay down with no seam showing In fasgun we only have the 1/32" balsa......the recess thickness is way too much for fastgun and will leave a very ugly seam.... I am killing my brain trying to fix this...
Here was my plan (or plans) Temporary fast gun conversion Use 1/8" X 3/8" balsa strips to build up the ribs (will end up about 1/32 below flush with outside of glass layer if you build how I did) Semi-permanent fast gun conversion Use 1/8X3/8 basswood strips... added benefit it armors the structural ribs with a sealing layer so when a round breaks teh sealing, water only infiltrates the cap Permanent Tugs approach
I haven't studied the guns yet, but what happened vis-a-vis big gun? Have there ever been venders who sold them? Did a vender go under? Is there equipment needed to construct them that is difficult to use or prohibitively expensive, or are the materials exotic?
