Well it took us a lot longer than we thought it would to get the Alaska and Hawaii on the water together.
But it was worth the wait. They looked magnificent out there.

We had an excellent two days of battling in Versailles this weekend.
Saturday we had 5 guest captains, which was wonderful. Teams were the British against the world, with the Iron Duke, Rodney and Prince of Wales taking on the P-cruiser, Hawaii, and Cavour. The first battle ended in a draw, with no points scored. In the second battle, there were no points scored in the first two sorties, so we went out for a third. To add to the action, a Golo was added to the British team. The Golo completed the convoy run and the P-cruiser sank, so the British carried the day. From that battle comes the quote of the weekend "I don't know how the Rodney could sneak up on anyone" after the Rodney slammed some nice belows in the P-cruiser while it's captain was distracted.
Sunday was a little warmer with a little more wind, blowing the pond scum to the other end. There were fewer captains, but we decided to stick with the British vs the world theme. So the teams were the Hood, Prince of Wales, and Iron Duke against the Hawaii and Alaska. The plucky Americans were at a slight disadvantage, but decided they could rely on speed to disengage as necessary. So the War of 1812, part II was commenced. The Hood quickly used her speed to run down the Americans, leaving her support behind. Then the tables were turned and the Hood was treated to a sandwich of dual side mounts. After a serious pounding, the Hood started to go down and made a run for the safety of the shore. It made it, barely

The second sortie started with the Americans feeling very good. Then the Alaska blew a hose before the battle and headed back to the dock for repairs. Some hose was salvaged from a worthless hulk of a British battlecruiser. The replacement hose then blew, keeping the Alaska out of the sortie. Considering the source of the replacement parts sabotage is suspected and an investigation has been launched. So the second sortie commenced with the American battlecruiser outnumbered two to one against battleships. The Prince of Wales and Hawaii started mixing it up, leaving the slower Iron Duke behind. And then the Prince of Wales was brought to a standstill with moss in the props. The Hawaii swooped in the for the kill and another British ship went down with all hands.

The Americans rule the pond! Recovery took a while, but the radio box had absolutely no water in it. We're not quite sure why Mikey always has to go diving for his son's ship. Oh well, must have been a father's day present.

Actually the Hood made it to shore, so he's swimming for the Prince of Wales.

It looks as if the action on Sunday is going not too badly.
There will be no official British comment, as it was entirely an
    American endeavor.
    Unknown British source!

Well, this past weekend's event was one of the most fun events that I have been to in a very long time.
Lots of great folks having fun running the boats together, and chatting up the hobby.
Also several new folks that either just got started, or are interested in trying it out.
Some of the folks brought out the R/C tanks and ran them around, which is very cool.
Saturday we had some great battling. Sunday we also had some great battling, but not only did Vance attend and battle with us, but my mom, sister, brother, sister-in-law, and Karen and Marina also dropped in to wish me a happy birthday. Most of them showed up just in time to see me go swimming.
It was great fun, and an absolutely wonderful weekend full of family and friends hanging out at the battle.
I truly appreciate all of the support that folks put into it.
Some of the group were not able to attend, but I did hear from some of them, before, during, or after.
I think that this one will be hard to top.
Of course, we can always try.
    Thanks to all.
    Mikey
