Anti-list would be illegal though. But making the entire bottom hard area would be a good idea... maybe 2" of water tank down low the length of the ship. Figure average width of 9 inches x 2" x 101" long = 7.9 gallons = 63 pounds of weight not needed :)

the question would be how do you get the water out while on the bottom.

I like foaming the voids internally to the point the ship can only sink to a certain marked level, then it is effectivly sunk.

Hmm... I may have to fill up the hull with water to see how much weight a ballast tank would save. Because it is a deep hull, the available volume may be bigger than I've seen in other ships.

the best I can think of for finding out how to get it to work is hit up some of those large scale RC sub guys. This type of ballast tank project might be right up their alley.

Good progress was made again tonight. I just hope the epoxy holds out, the resin can is feeling pretty light.

I honestly don't want to know what materials cost for this hull is going to be when you hand it off to Matt. My little 28.125" ship comes in close to $100. I assume once you are done with this project, you will finish your secret Battlestations build for this year. You can't disappoint us after two consecutive years of showing up with an unannounced, yet fully functional ship.

    :p

I can see you are fishing for hints Dustin, but this year the Hood is my major Battlestations project. I only have 5 weeks to get the guns, torpedoes and pump of the Henri reliable, and I'm not sure that will be enough time.

That fiberglass job looks really good! I can imagine why the resin can is feeling light.:)

Not fishing for hints, I know will probably bring at least one known or announced ship, but I was taunting you to finish your secret project...

I was able to finish the waterproofing of the hull and the decks. As I let the pump retract from what I knew was the last epoxy I needed, I heard it suck in air. Just made it!

???????? This has NEVER happened before!
I don't think I can convince the Admiral to authorize new test equipment, so I'm going to have to stick to smaller ships after this.

I was able to get the rudder and shafts installed. I still need to add the braces to the main shaft, but I was too beat to get it done tonight. The motors are mounted and ESCs wired, so once the shafts are done I'll be able to run propulsion tests.

Very nice work Mark. Has anybody started on a 1/96 PE to help sink it yet? :)
