All of the ribs are in place from the step deck-forward, including the bow profile. I have half of the lower deck rib centers cut, and in place (but not glued), and hope to have the last 7 ribs and stern profile shaped and fitted so that I can have the entire skeleton glued up this coming week-end. I will try to post new photos then. Mikey
As I posted in another area earlier. Phil and I went to the print shop this weekend, and walked away with plans for a 96th scale Bearn (aircraft-carrier)in about an hour. Not only was it great fun, but I had to really dig deep to force myself to roll them up, and put them aside, so I could progress on the Mogador. I wanted to jump into the Bearn and start cutting ribs. Hehe. Oh well. It is nice to have all of the plans for one's next project on-hand in advance. Nothing quite as frustrating as waiting for the mail to come with the needed supplies. Mikey
I have made a little progress on the Mogador. All the ribs are glued in place. Bow profile is in place, but not glued yet. I will try to get the stern profile fitted next session, and finish shaping the skeleton for bottom sheeting. I plan to use 1/64" ply on the bottom. I will try to post some photos in the next couple of days. Mikey
Mikey's Mogador is a beautiful ship. It looks nice in the bones. There is no doubt that the 1/96 scale is the perfect scale for the small ships! By the way, I got to eye Mikey's Strasbourg too. This ship is big! And beautiful too. heh. Way to go Mikey! The rest of you, get out and start building some Battlestation ships!
Mike It was a real treat to finally get to meet you, and talk up the French fleet. Hopefully we can get in at least one Battlestations event before you leave. I would loan you either, or both of my Frenchies. Then when you get back, we can build a pair of running mates. Something mid-sized first. Then a pair of big-boys. There will be no stopping us then.. Mikey
I was able to cut out the center of the decks, and glue the outer edge in place this past weekend. The entire hull is shaped, and ready for bottom sheeting. Mikey
On another note.. Strasbourg's main cannons were dry-fired for the first time this past weekdend. They are fully plumbed, and I need only hook up the valve to a servo. They are stationary at this time, and I will get the rotation, and depression going in the next couple of weeks. I also built a new motor-mount, and need to get some larger dog-bone universals, and wire up the new motors, and she will be ready to go to sea again. Only this time she will have at least the main cannons ready for gunnery tests. I also have replaced the internal armor with the shower-pan liner, which although a little heavier, I like it better than the clear plastic. The armor is done forward of the step deck. So that will get finished next session. The plan is to have her ready for sea next weekend, so that I can get the main turrets firing. If I can get the bottom of the Mogador sheeted this coming weekend, and get the drive and rudder in her, then I will try to get the DD on the water by the middle of April. Mikey
I could post some of the photos in the photos section if need be. But I have some posted in this thread on pages one, and two of the Strasbourg. And some of the Mogador on the last couple pages. Mikey
