I will have tripple bow guns, I figure since she will be able to turn so well, I should be able to turn and track the target, allowing a few extra shots off. And since the bow is flat, and the guns well forward, they will be able to hit at a short range. Also I have made a little diode steering board, so that I will be able to individually fire each gun, triggering left, right, or up for each gun. Or pull down, firing all 3 at once as a tripple mount. When I have a real juicy target like a NC in my sights. I hope this will allow BB conservation, since a Tripple can empty out pretty fast. Also how many people will expect a ship to be firing tripples at them from over the bow. The sneak attack value alone will allow some nice shots I think, and with the way I have my pump outlet mounted, will also help me sink some ships. I watched Tim's SC down here. and he was seldom able to get his side mount, or hay maker on target, unless the faster ships let him, I did and payed for it. After that I just stayed away, and fired the tripple sterns at him whenever he came by me. Or ran away to fight another day. We will have to name ourselves the - APF. The Axis Pigboat Fleet.
Dave When The Kaiser Hulls get to coming out of a Mold you can count two more Axis slow ships at that whopping 28 sec speed to terrorize the waters. I am sure Tim and I will both build a full working version.
Hey Dave, it should be a pretty easy task to put together a Picaxe-based fire control board for you. Push forward and it fires one of the guns. Push forward again and it fires another of the guns. Push forward a third time and it fires the last of the guns. Push forward again and it repeats. Of course, pull back and it fires all three. Hopefully simpler than trying to remember whether you want to pull the stick left, right, or up to keep ammo consumption equal. Be sure to make all the dummy barrels in your other turrets look just like armed cannons as well, so people doing a cursory inspection of your boat won't have a clue as to its true capabilities. I think there are still a few people in the WWCC who believe that my cruiser has as many bb guns as it does torpedoes, even though the real bb turrets were removed during a refit two years ago.
I have never looked into the Picaxe chips, It does sound like what I want, it would be better doing it as you explained it. It sounds like somthing that will take me quite awhile to figure out thou?
OK sounds good on the triple mounting. My Fuso is now set up like Tim K's was. I think a couple of the VUs in IRCWCC that were set up similarly, although I have no idea how well they performed. Right now it's looking like Fuso, Prinz Eugen, Rhineland, Baden, and Von der Tann operating together with maybe a Kaiser thrown in the mix. Sounds like fun to me!
Yes I talked to Mikey Deskin, and he told me that they did very well with the tripple setup, but they only fired as tripples, I heard that from Don & Rick. Don said one fellow was very good with his, and the other not so good, it just comes down to how well you fight your boat. I installed my outlet coming out the casemate, pointing forward, so that when the BB's hit, the high powered water stream will hit also, just like the NC's off the stern. I can't wait till the first battle, she should be alot of fun. One month to go. I need to check out the Picaxe chip, sounds like once I figure it out, it should work just like I want it too. I just downloaded the Picaxe windows editor, its free, I will have to check it out. Visit this site Marc will have a Konig, he just got the windows cut out, not a bad looking ship, 28 sec, but a class 5, it will also be at Nats.
Much to heavy to take to Nats, we are shipping the boats, and all flying up. So he wanted somthing a little more managable.
I can definately understand that. I hope you guys have fun, I'm stuck down here during that time period, although we may have a longer-than-2-day battle for those who can't afford to go or can't take enough time off. What's Heidi battling?
She does not know if she will get off or not, not till March or so. Marc's Mogami I think, or a Radetzky. Thats right I keep forgeting to post on the MWC list about Nats. I keep hearing the Wed's morning battle called a cruiser battle. But is it cruiser's only or any ship class 3 and below i wonder.
The "Cruiser Battle" is any class 3 or lower ship. Not sure if we've had a 3 unit predread take part in it before. We've had people beg in with a Scharny but made them pin the sidemount.
I wouldn't think that a 28sec ship would do well in a 3 units or below battle. No reflection on predreads (which I love), just that as a cruiser captain I would consider it one less ship that could chase me, more like a piece of terrain to drive around...
I don't know about that, I watched the cruiser battle in Houston, and they were all acting like they were NC's, and Bismarks, trying to turn and get on peoples sides. I don't think a pre-dred would do that bad really, not the way they were all in fighting the cruisers.
A predread would do fine in teh CA battle, there's nothing to shoot at for a CA with stern guns. There is always someone (Me last year & in 05) that dies during the battle for you to blast away at. Targets that don't move are easy to chase down. Now if the whole oposite fleet decides to run and not play then you will not have any fun.
That's what I mean, Bob. If I was looking to win on points/sinks, I'd have my fleet battle away from the slow ship with casements. Not that the Radetski captain is less effective, rather that my fleet would waste a lot of ammo trying to sink Radetski that could better be used on easier-to-sink cruisers that can actually chase me. I expect in an every-captain-for-him/herself 3-units-or-less battle, Radetski would have good odds of being last boat floating.
I will take some tomorrow, I forgot and left the camera on the other day, and quess what the batteries are dead. They should be recharged for tomorrow.
I went to Rick's again today, and got all the guns mounted, and the hull sheeted and doped. We also got Ricks guns mounted in his Lutzow, took us a bit because he wanted them mounted just perfect, but is quite happy now with how they came out. Don hurt his back yesterday at work, so he was not able to make it, hope he feels better soon. Here is a picture of the center top of the ship, where I will do the reloading, change out the batteries, and have the CO2 bottle. I'm quite happy with how it came out, everything in the center, so easy to service between battles. Side views of the sheeting. If you look close you can see my pump outlet coming out the front of the casemate. New made on my own lathe. So just have to finish the wiring, which is about 2/3 done I would guess at this time, then make a superstructure, which will be the last thing I do.
