The Big Gun Cannons are going well, and I need a ship to put them in, so decided to make what is probably the best Big Gun platform that I know of, the South Dakota class BB!

These ships are relatively small, compact, but carry a big punch. At this point, I've printed the hull sections and epoxied them together. The outer hull has been coarsely sanded. I still need a little filler here and there and a final sanding. I tend not to pay too much attention to the inside of the ship because it is usually covered in pond mud and balsa litter after battling.

For reference, there's a pic with the cannons and pumps that I designed for it. Also a screen cap from CAD that shows the general layout.

If anyone wants to build one let me know. I'd be happy to print out all the parts at cost and ship them. I don't have a cost for such an effort, but could work one up for a serious inquiry. This probably wouldn't qualify as an "easy" build, but the design has pretty much everything positioned with integral mounts. 2024-04-19 10.19.19.jpg 2024-04-19 10.19.32.jpg 2024-04-19 10.22.00.jpg Screenshot 2024-04-19 103750.png

Thanks. I have to say I'm inspired by Bsgkid and South Jersey Shipyards. Really amazing work and effort there.

Maybe I could make kits for Big Gun.

If I get the chance I would like to print the Japanese armored cruiser Kurama. It would make a nice addition along with my Lutzow I just need to figure out cad and do it. Hopefully it will turn out as good as your SoDak.

Jeff been away for a bit. The cannons you sent me are great. By your modeling looks like your using a HPA tank. Is that correct? Curious what regulator your putting to use. I have one that I'm looking to test myself but hadn't hooked it up yet

Its designed for a 20 oz CO2 tank. Big gun uses a lot of gas! Having said that, unless there is a leak, 20oz is probably overkill and I don't think I've ever run out. For regulators, I'm like many others here... Love the Battlers Connection lightweight regulator, but am always looking for options.

Ive taken a 3000psi hpa tabk to a maker faire here in VA and it lasts quite a while. Alot of paintball around here uses HPA instead of co2. Been increasingly more difficult to get bottles filled due to that. With that being said does anyone know the input limits of the BC regulators? Input i mean. Thanks again jeff.

--They make ninja brand hpa tanks now that are 4500 psi and are still aluminum and the compressors to fill them are only in the 250 to 300 ish range. I'd think it would be worth looking into nowadays.

Ya id rather tote my compressor to our current pond and refill on spot rather than dealing with co2 supply issues

Its not difficult to fill CO2 tanks...amazingly common industrial gas. Any industrial gas supply place can get you a 20lb+ siphon tank for you to then fill multiple paintball tanks, its how IRCWCC has done it for the last decade I've been around (decades preceding me too, I'm sure).

HPA tanks are made out of spun fiber, and are not as "durable" as a metal cylinder. A $300 compressor is going to take hours to fill a single tank due to low output + duty cycles.

    Kurama eventually sure.

I have aluminum hpa tanks and a compressor I use every time we play paintball. Co2 used to be easy to get here but fir whatever reason it's been increasingly more difficult to get. A few places that sell paintball goods sell everything except being able to fill tanks. Perhaps I should look else where I guess. The hpa compressor is convenient as in half hour from town so instead of running into town when we run out I can service on spot. Takes 5 minutes or so

I think ninja has a regulator that can do it the only thing is these hpa are long abt 2ft so little destroyers and smaller ships might not fit them.

I'd have to measure what I have bit don't think it's any longer than the 20 Oz co2 tank and regulator. But agreed it not great for smaller ships. Not that I've seen yet. Doesn't mean I won't keep looking for other options to co2 tank.

... And she is almost done! I went a little crazy on superstructure details. The base superstructure is Flex material and basically bulletproof. All of the little secondaries, radars and range finders are printed on a MSLA machine and are less durable. We'll see how she looks after a few battles. Turret covers and barbettes to finish her off. 2024-06-02 14.45.08.jpg 2024-06-02 14.45.20.jpg 2024-06-02 14.45.35.jpg 2024-06-02 14.45.52.jpg 2024-06-02 14.45.58.jpg 2024-06-02 14.46.59.jpg 2024-06-02 14.47.06.jpg 2024-06-02 14.47.09.jpg 2024-06-02 14.47.16.jpg 2024-06-02 14.47.29.jpg 2024-06-02 14.47.36.jpg
