Well as Ive discussed over on the ircwcc group page, Ive been offered a great deal on a complete Andrea Doria. She isnt fitted out however, meaning no guns, engine, pump, radio, etc. So now the questions become how should I fit out the AD? I have a few ideas but I'm always open to more advice.

First ship of my good friend and lifelong member Carl Camurati. He would be the best to ask.
As I see it, good pump, side, side, rear 75
    radio spectrum dx6i
motors are up to you but the trend is for brushless and gears.
batteries are Lithium Iron (LiFe) cells but others would work

Yeah the plan is 1 unit pump, two 50 mag guns and a 75'er mounted to stern.

As for the radio, you're suggestion of the spectrum dx6i? I can't find that radio anywhere, apparently it's been discontinued? I've been looking at something like this:

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24903__Turnigy_6XS_FHSS_2_4ghz_Computer_Transmitter_w_6_Model_Memory_Inc_7_Ch_Reciever_Mode_1_.html

Motors I'm planning to go brushless, but I'm waiting on pictures of the inside of the AD to see how she's currently set up. I'm thinking of running a geared setup, but I'm not sure, once again depends on what I see once I actually have the ship.

Batteries I'm really not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm foreseeing the batteries as the most expensive part of the ship, but there is a budget I need to keep in mind. I've been thinking of something like this:

    http://www.all-battery.com/one72v10000mahnimhbatteryforaerobirdxtremercairplane.aspx

    Or this:

    http://www.all-battery.com/72v10000mahnimhbattery11229.aspx

Run two of them in parallel and that should give me almost 20Ah to work with at 7.2v, which is right smack in the middle of what most of the electronics these boats use runs at. (Most of the stuff I see is 6v-9.9v)

Once again, I'm not going to purchase anything until I've got the ship sitting on the table next to me and I can hands-on see what's going to fit and what won't. Last thing I want to do is order all of these components only to have part A be too big to fit and the ship weigh in at 40lbs.

    Update!
This is the latest battery pack I'm looking at:

I'm looking at receiver controlled switches for activating the pump and for activating the solenoids to fire the cannons. Would this kind of thing work as a relay board controlled by the radio?

Planning on using the clippard 2 way normally closed 12v solenoids for the cannons. They're rated at 6w max, which is well under the 10w the relay boards linked above can handle. Am I wrong?

    Update!
Recieved the pictures and more details on the AD tonight. She is more complete than I thought, which is great for a rookie like me. Finalizing plans and hopefully by the end of the day today or tomorrow I'll be the new owner of an Andrea Doria.
