For my first ship, I was considering to buy the SLC Pepsi Cola on Southeast Attack Squadron's website. If I did, what would I need to get it running and combat ready?
I'm also looking for ship plans. If you guys here know of any sites that carry such plans, please tell me. Thanks!
I don't know about any SLC Pepsi Cola but the Salt Lake City at SAS would be a great starter boat for $50 shipped. If you go this route, get one of the 3.5 ounce CO2 bottles that Rick is also selling. http://www.southeastattacksquadron.org/forsale.shtml Welcome to the group BTW.
I'm going to be cruel here a bit. We used to have a 'Next Generation Combat' subforum. It was full of your ODW (under different names) and other ideas, some dangerous, some impractical, but mostly all proposed by individuals who walked in, glanced around, and decided they knew better before even going to a single battle. That subforum no longer exists because it simply seemed to attract and generate more of the same. Please come to a battle, get your hands dirty in a ship, before you try to fix the hobby. We aren't perfect, but we make it work pretty well most days.
Sorry, Nick. I know you guys have been doing this for way longer than I have, and I apologize if it appeared that I thought I knew better than you pros. I'll take your advice, buy the Salt Lake City cruiser on SAS, and I'll think about it after I've battled a couple times. Sorry.
First a little disclaimer, I have been in the hobby since 1998 (geez, that makes me sound old). I am getting into a different type of hobby (not leaving this one) and using my warship experience as I try to figure out new things via the web. What it comes down to is return on investment. If I don't have fun, I wont keep doing it. So many expectations are shattered or adjusted when you go to your first event and meet others and their ships. The fear of doing something wrong or setting up a ship to fail...endless nights of research that sends you down countless rabbit holes...wanting to have a good first showing... As I hit similar issues in my new hobby(ish) I bucked up and got out to meet others. This relieved my stress and answered questions as well as another round of questions I had not thought of prior to the meeting. Find the nearest local captain and talk to them. Arrange to meet them and see a boat or two. Internet is awesome, but it does not replace meeting face to face. Just my .02 Lou
Out of these ships, what should I build? 1. Invincible class 2. Indefagitable class 3. Von Der Tann 4. Moltke 5. Derfflinger P.S. I love battle cruisers.
They're not deleted, but they're not publicly available. I'm not sure that every thread or post of that vein is actually in there of course, i think a lot are still mixed in to the current subs.
Grab that SLC, Rick is a good guy as proven by his reasonable prices. That path will get you on the water asap. I would suggest putting the custom boat idea on the backburner at least until you get started battling. You'll soon find out on a battle day that between loading only a couple cannons, patching, and troubleshooting anything that goes wrong, you'll have your hands plenty full without worrying about a more complicated ship. Keep in mind this is already a very niche hobby so ideas like custom boats are being preached to a very limited number of people that have been molding the rules to make them work for decades. No reason you can't experiment with it later when you have a solid grasp of how all the components work together.
