Hey guys my name is Thomas and i live in LA. the closest RC battling group to me is SCRAP in Pasadena, so because of that i think i want to build to a fastgun ship. Ideally i would like to build my Grandad's ship form WW2 HMS Edinburgh. I know this ship is very small and from what i have read on other posts would be difficult but still i would love to be able to do this. Any ones help would be great and remember this is going to be my first build so i know pretty much nothing.
o and i already have a set of plans for the ship that i got out of the anatomy of a ship book on the Belfast, the sister ship to the edinburgh
HMS Edinburgh was one of the largest light cruisers made, however, you will find out is still a tight squeeze to get stuff in. Your biggest concern will be keeping weight down low so it isn't too top heavy.
yea thats what i meant, fitting all the stuff inside is supposed to be difficult and takes some planning. So i want to start thinking about weight and the internal placement now as im building? im probably going to use Mike5334 Bearn CV build as a template and follow his guide, unless anyone recommends another thread would be better. Also i was wondering if anyone has ever done a a civil war ironclad and would that even be allowed for big gun or fast gun?
Maybe check out his Omaha light cruiser build too: USS Omaha Light Cruiser Class (Fast Gun/Treaty) | R/C Warship Combat I would recommend you go with brushless motors (he used brushed in that thread) and flat pack lithium batteries.
Ok cool will do. One last question i have two plans of the ship, one in 1/1200 scale and one is 1/350 scale and i need to change them into 1/144th scale but i cant figure out how to do the math. I need these so that i can do the deck and space the ribs at the right distances apart. The rib pieces i have already drawn and cut out and im getting ready to glue them to the wood. Thanks for your help Absolutek.
Edinburgh (according to the IRC shiplist) is 614' long. In 1/144 that is 51.17 inches. If you multiply your 1/350 plans by (350/144=) 2.4306 you should get correct scale.
