And from the so ugly it's cute category... It's the Tugster!!! I saw this new laser cut kit from Zip Kits at the Weak Signals Toledo Show. I passed it up the first time around, but it was so unique that it was worth spending the $29. I spent last night figuring out how to change it from single drive to dual drive. Moving the motor out of the middle gives me room for a 6 volt 12 Ahr battery and gives me differential thrust. It only took about two hours to get it to this stage. Next I'll seal it and then install the drive shafts.
I didn't remember it being quite that funny looking. But I think it will look very cool on the water. Mikey
The finished Tugster made its debut today at the annual Denmark Straits event. The differential thrust makes for a very maneuverable ship. Here you can watch it spin in place.
No rescue boat is complete without light and siren. When the siren starts up all the grown men look up and the grin of a 5-year old comes to their face. Here the Tugster is running a practice drill for the next time a sinking ship needs rescued. This float will work for the heaviest battleship!
That is too cool. I think I might make a tug from some ww2 plans I have. It would be a little bigger. You think anyone would take exception to mounting a harpooning spear to get them out of the water.
