I am very interested in this hobby of building and then being sunk. Is there anyone near Rockford illionis that could help me. Or is there someone who could sell me a fully equipped RC boat ready for action.

Welcome! I'm thinking you land a bit between GLAS and PortPolarBear, both great groups.

Are you near to @pigeonfarmboy ?

Good evening. So I am building a scratch built boat not to any sort of scale and I am pretty Shure that this ship doesn't exist but it is just a boat to go out and sink when The time comes that I get a ship to sink it with. So I used wood gorillia glue and was wondering if that is the right glue to use. I also want to fiberglass the hull but I do not know how to apply could anyone answers these two questions.
    Thank you

Is it going to have wood structure to lay the fiberglass over or are you thinking of spanning the glass cloth between the vertical plates to create the hull? You'll need fiberglass cloth (there are different "thickness" options) and 2-part epoxy. Since you're experimenting get yourself some supplies and try it on a test piece first. This thing will be a good way to get experience applying the balsa armor too.

Thank you for your help I experimented and instead of putting wood on the bottom and putting fiberglass over I put paper and put fiberglass inside and outside. This is best explained with pictures.

    Welcome to boat building.
We will have a battle in Saranac, MI June 10
In the mean time you could look at:
Battlers Connection or Strike Models for some 144th scale ship ideas.

We also have several videos on our GLAS site

    Hello sirs and mesdames:

I certainly don't want to hijack a thread, so I apologize in advance if this is regarded as such. I saw this thread and noticed a number of members in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana on the interactive map. Are there any regular or semi-regular battles occurring in the area?

    Thanks,
    John

Thank you sir for the reply!

I won't get a chance to make it this year. I have gotten the itch to work on my ship again, so perhaps it'll be ready by next summer (or 2058, the way I build).

I guess I always hoped something would pop-up closer to home. Being able to battle monthly would probably provide inspiration. But, at about 3.5 hours away, I may be able to attend 2-3 times per year. That provides some incentive to finish a boat!

    Have a good day,
    John

We will have some two day battles to make it easier for our out of state GLAS members.
What boat are you building, maybe we can help.

    Sounds good!

As far as the ship, I'll have to do some major cleaning in my workshop (which has become more of a storage area over the years) and take inventory of what I've got before I decide for certain. I'm almost ashamed as to how many ships I've started in the past decade or so and never finished. I'm leaning towards finishing the last ship I worked on, which is the HMS Colossus.

    Thank you,
    John
