Limited budget is hard to deal with. When one battery cost $50 and you need 4-6 of them. Whole ships cost $600-1,000 plus 40-80 hours of build time and then the cost of radio, batteries. Not to mention the travel to get to battles. But really $2000 investment for a hobby is not that costly. Buy a gaming computer and a couple monthly premium game subscriptions about the same.
